Oops! Sorry. Didn't totally crop out my pic. Lol.

100 floor proposal though. I hope they revert to that plan.

I hope it does too, although it's not clear that was ever a real proposal. A 100-story Rogers tower would be incredible But I'm not going to complain with an 800-900 footer right on CPS, if the design is a gem.

Imagine you purchase the triplex penthouse at the Plaza. You go onto your terrace with your bottle of Dom Pérignon to celebrate, you look up, and WAAAAAAAGHHHHHH - you see the Park Lane Hotel.

Apparently, the building to the east of the Park Lane also is ripe for development.

A Dental Hub With Views to Swoon Over May Go on the Market

APRIL 6, 2015
By MATT A.V. CHABAN

Quote:
.....As the blocks south of the park have gone from Midtown no mans land to Billionaire’s Row in a matter of years, the city’s top builders have been scouring every parcel for opportunities. To them, 30 Central Park South, at only 15 stories, is ripe for redevelopment.

.....So far, there are no firm offers for the property. The most obvious suitor would be Steve Witkoff and Harry Macklowe, who not only control the Park Lane Hotel next door, which they purchased in 2013 for $660 million, but also 21 West 58th Street, a rental building that backs onto 30 Central Park South.

Both could be demolished and replaced with a tower of 80 stories or more, much more if the medical building was incorporated.

This has led rivals, most notably Gary Barnett, the president of Extell Development, to approach the board about a purchase. He successfully held up a similar project near Columbus Circle for years by renting the garage beneath it. If he controlled 30 Central Park South, he could build his own project or at least impede the Witkoff-Macklowe tower at a time when demand for multimillion-dollar apartments along the park is said to be cooling.

Indeed, the possibility of years of construction next door is as much a reason for some to cash out as the cash itself.

“We’ll need extra suction just for all the dust,” Dr. Mandor joked.

After all, who wants a drill in their mouth when there is a pile driver pounding next door?

I hope Witkoff gets the site. Already in a superior location amongst the $B Row towers plus you buil a 80+ Story Supertall?? Look out!!

Interesting about Extell's interest being the first one already inquiring for it.

What's the deciding factor for the medical building being incorporated?

"Much more" than 80 stories could warrant a new tallest in the city, even at 80+ it'll still be a giant.

Man I hope the building next to it goes too! A wider tower would be great to contrast all the skinny ones.

In this case I dont understand "landmark protection" this hotel is shitty and ugly, who in their right mind would want to keep the shit ass park land hotel instead of making a new 850 feet tall skyscraper. Landmark protection should be trying to get the new tower built so that way they will actually have a landmark building. Just because a building is old does not make it a landmark.

In my opinion I also beleive 850 feet is too short for this location 1,200 feet (375 meters) would be nice

Maybe that 100 story proposal wasn't such a fantasy after all!

I say top all of the existing (or soon to be existing) buildings.

1600+ would be nice

We already know of this vision: http://www.ajsny.com/36centralparks/

36 Central Park South Supertower Proposal
New York, NY
Proposal for replacement of The Witkoff Group's existing Park Lane Hotel property with a 100 storey residential tower.
Of course this is not a serious proposal.

Barnett may foil Witkoff’s bid to build supertall at Park Lane Hotel site -
Extell chief talks to 30 CPS board about possible purchase

http://therealdeal.com/blog/2015/04/...ne-hotel-site/

Quote:
Extell Development’s Gary Barnett has approached the co-op board of 30 Central Park South — a former hotel that now primarily houses dentists’ offices — about a possible purchase. The move could make it challenging for Steve Witkoff and Harry Macklowe, who own the nearby Park Lane Hotel as well as an adjacent rental building, to build a supertall structure at the Park Lane site.

Witkoff and Macklowe bought the Park Lane Hotel for $660 million in 2013, and also own 21 West 58th Street, which is located right behind 30 Central Park South, the New York Times reported.

If both the Park Lane Hotel and 21 West 58th are demolished, the partners could build an 80-story skyscraper at their site. And if 30 Central Park South were incorporated, it could be even taller. But if Barnett takes control of 30 CPS, he could hold up the Witkoff-Macklowe project or build his own project there. He held up a similar project by Vornado Realty Trust at nearby 220 Central Park South
While, I'm sure Extell would build something nice, my hopes and desires if for Witkoff to get this site and have a once of a lifetime opportunity to build something great for the city.
