I like Montparnasse, to me it's a modern version as to what the church spires and domed buildings we're built for, to be tall, grand and stand out

It does the job, it's a quality tower and to me is a great example of a tower from it era, it's facade is black/dark brown windows with gold lines... quite complimentary to it's surroundings - sorry for off topic

There was actually supposed to be a cluster around it.

It really shows how crazy the boom is in New York when I'm disappointed a tower is only 1000ft

This is still a render and the design isn't final. The height/design could change. Some of the amazing building we are seeing rising now didn't look as impressive in their early renders.

Yeah, as Yimby states in that article, it's not clear whether a design has even been chosen.

I like both the Herzog & de Mueron design and the Handel one... probably giving the slight edge to H&dM in terms of pure aesthetics. But Handel's design does have those titanic 10x12 ft. windows, plus all that lovely-looking outdoor space. Maybe the developers realized no one will use the outdoor spaces that high up, and are focusing on a design that will maximize their interiors.

Whichever design they go with, you have to imagine the height is still very much in question, and the final number will probably have a lot to do with the market conditions in a couple years. Those extra 200' (even with gargantuan ceiling heights, we're talking about 8-12 more full floor units) could net several hundred million dollars in profits. But if there's a dip in demand for ultra-luxury by the time this gets off the ground, the ROI might not be worth the added cost of building the uppermost floors.

Time will tell.

The Solow building (the black-and-white structure to the right of the new Park Lane in the latest render) is 689 feet tall, so this new version looks to be about 900 feet tall.

I'd prefer to not have supertalls right on the block south of Central Park, so I hope the new render's height is borne out. The new Park Lane doesn't have to be as tall as possible, as there is nothing blocking its views of the Park, starting from the base. As in the design of 220 CPS, the building is designed with a wide face towards the Park in order to maximize that asset.

If this version is constructed, it will be interesting to see how the new Park Lane contrasts to 432 Park, as both would feature a grid-like concrete frame.

Very good analysis!Fully agree;..about 432,the dynamic of the design is in the length;about Park Lane seems like it is in the wavy width...

And it would help 432 Park fit in better.

Facade looks nice and classy. Unique shape that doesn't look like random auto-cad bullshit.

Swanky New York Condo Project Exploits Aid Program

http://www.wsj.com/articles/posh-tow...uth-1444728781
Quote:
If developer Steven Witkoff’s ambitions are realized, he will complete by 2020 a soaring 900-foot condominium tower that would be the latest addition to the “Billionaires’ Row” of ultraluxury skyscrapers on the southern edge of New York’s Central Park.

...Should the project be built—a final decision to start construction hasn’t yet been made—prices are expected to be as high as $13,000 a square foot, just shy of the city’s record price a square foot, according to a presentation for potential investors. Some of the planned condo units may “include dedicated security offices to accommodate private security personnel,” according to offering documents.

It has always appeared likely this would be sub-supertall, but there have been so many conflicting numbers floating around, it's been hard to say definitively. I wouldn't say this is enough information to warrant a title change, but 1210 is just as wobbly a number as 900.

Where did you find those pics? Can't find them on their website or anywhere else.
