That's truly sad as those suburbs will never truly integrate into the more exciting parts of the city. I think India needs to embrace mid rise density, as well as mixed zoning in new areas. That large apartment zone under construction in your pictures is so depressing. Entirely planned for automobiles, the buildings have virtually no pedestrian realm, and there doesn't even appear to be retail in the buildings' podiums. At least there's that Vancouver style metro system. Aside from the planning disaster, these new areas actually look great. Especially that middle class apartment complex
these are mostly private projects with little public support with mostly being gated communities with very local street life ( if any ). The major centers of congregation are malls as they provide a secure , clean and navigable environment. That'swhy these new urban sprawls outside cities don't have market places or street life as such , they have these huge malls where under one roof you get to do everything. Malls are also very preferable because they have a standard environment in every weather especially during intolerable summer season. The result is that you don;t have many people walking on the streets as everyone remains in their cars and travel between office-mall-home. This is sad as older cities of these metros have a bustling street life. shown here is Cannought Place central park surrounded by CP Market and built over a metro junction.
