Looks like Steinway's short fat brother.

Not too different from before, though. Somebody on SSP, can't remember who, was ranting once about all the random trees the digital folks love sticking out of every nook and cranny on a tower. I have come to wholeheartedly agree; they look especially dumb here.

Generally speaking, what is up with these new HY renders? I feel like I've had too much to drink when I look at them.

Wow. It looks great. It appears that there's a pretty big plaza on the north side -- perhaps to accommodate outside filming for Fix shows!

I suspect this is bullshit. First the 'new' 15 hy had old looking towers and now this is reverting back to the step design. The renders look terrible compared to what related normally puts out. I hope yimby has this wrong.

These renderings look kind of blurry. It would be weird to advertise a building with a blurry render.

Just my opinion, but I think those are the latest and it's not reverting back to anything. That other version was a concept.

The models displayed at that convention in Vegas earlier this year shows this is the latest which was the same design revealed at that Time Warner Center Exhibit previous.

Also, how else would Yimby get the new floor count if this was not supplied in some official capacity?

I agree that the latest renderings released for both 15 and 50 HY are of not quality, but they are meant to give a taste and I hope Related will release better detailed look to follow which I'm sure will not disappoint.

With the high ceiling height, me think Related is targeting for financial and tech firms that would enjoy such a space and layouts. I think the tower looks great for a tower that is not looking to steal the spotlight from 30 Hudson.

cheers

Could be that Related has hired a new company to do their renders. I agree this looks different, what with the weird haziness.

All good points!

I note that the traceable (at this point, to me) source for both this kerfuffle & yesterday's 15 HY excitement is Nikolai Fedak's New York Yimby. Capitalnewyork recently described him as "city polemicisit" and "rabble-rouser"
I suggest somebody ping Mr. Fedak and ask what his source (with dates) is:

doesn't look any different from the model we've seen. The 48 floors probably means there will be a large crown and/or parapet.

Fix shows = Fox shows?? AFAIK, Mr. Murdoch abandoned his attempt to acquire Time Warner, who will be HQed across 33rd Street from 50 HY.

Regarding the "pretty big plaza on the north side"< are you making reference to the left side, mid, distcnace in this lousy render:

Yeah I think that's what he's pointing out. There's a possibility News Corp could anchor this tower, bringing its many television subsidiaries with it (and, with Time Warner, making this a media power-block).

I've come to like this tower, love the added cross-bracing to the sides
The tower is a complete beast in size! But I love the setbacks how they're quite deep at first; then higher up they're much thinner
Reminds me of a throne!

Also 48 floors at 326m means each floor has a height of 6.8m/22.3feet!

Don't you know?? Floor managers in companies like to fly drones and spy on their employees!

Also tech firms love to have basketball courts in their office and do all kinds of fun stuff!

Maybe this will set a precedent. All future tenants will be asking for higher ceilings like the 57th street residentials. Only way pure office will keep up with res towers height-wise.

Well again, this could point towards a major media tenant. Soundstages and television studios require huge ceiling heights.

Remember that all this speculation was started by rabble-rousing Mr. Yimby...

BUT, maybe Comedy Central will move it's two late night shows down from their far west side 50s studios.

Plus there's that kickstarter started by TheDailyShow to buy CNN...

If you ask me, a super tall with 48 floors is just crazy. Residential buildings have shorter floor to ceiling heights!
