34th Street McDonald’s Demolition Clears Way For Supertall 50 Hudson Yards

Click for large pic: http://newyorkyimby.com/wp-content/u...hAvenue_01.jpg

Quote:
The 52-story office tower at 10 Hudson Yards topped out back in November, but work has yet to start on the planned tower at 50 Hudson Yards. However, there is movement that will help make the site ready for construction.

In October, Related Companies acquired the site of the McDonald’s at 427 Tenth Avenue (at the corner of West 34th Street), Crain’s reported. That’s where they want to put 50 Hudson Yards.

Since then the McDonald’s, which actually had a drive-thru, closed. Not only that, photos sent to YIMBY show its demolition in progress.

So the current Coach HQ doesn't need to be removed for 50 HY to be built?

The current Coach headquarters is in the Manhattan West block. It's a 15-ish story building from the 1930's.
This site is diagonally across the street.

^That would mean they have to wait until the new Coach Tower at 10 Hudson Yards is completed. Interior work is underway in there and judging by the night lighting, they are nearing the end of that. The entire block has to be demolished for this building as it reaches the Hudson Boulevard.

Could be good news for this tower...or the "Spiral", or the Girsole, or 2 Manhattan West or even 2 WTC.

Facebook checking out new office towers for 500K sf spread
http://therealdeal.com/2016/02/19/fa...00k-sf-spread/

Quote:
Facebook has started the hunt for more office space in New York City, with sources saying it is searching for 500,000 square feet or more.

The social media giant is said to be considering space in one of several office towers currently being developed or built in the Hudson Yards neighborhood
. The $300 billion company has been talking with the Related Cos. and its present landlord Vornado Realty Trust about a possible move into a newly-built tower.

Facebook is now the largest tenant at Vornado’s 770 Broadway in the Greenwich Village, Crain’s reported. It has been adding space since it first leased 100,000 square feet in 2013, and now has a total of 295,000 square feet at the 15-story building, according to Crain’s.
With other tenants, such as AOL, at the 1.6 million-square-foot 770 Broadway, brokers told Crain’s that the internet giant is looking for a large block of space that would allow growth.
Vornado could also develop space for Facebook near Penn Station or other locations, Crain’s reported. The World Trade Center is another possibility as well as a developer building an office tower if Facebook agreed to lease 500,000 square feet.

While Facebook may not move anytime soon, it may follow other tech companies, such as Google, which have rapidly expanded their footprint in the city. Google bought 111 Eighth Avenue, which is a nearly 3-million-square-foot building, for its New York City headquarters.

If they decided to build their own tower, we might have had a Facebook Tower proposal.

First spotted over on Yimby, Mr. Manhattan's Instagram video from a Related event appears to show a new 50 Hudson Yards model. Embedding doesn't appear to work (if I'm just doing it wrong, someone let me know!) but I took a couple screen grabs:

Based on this, it appears they've (mercifully) moved on from the torqued two-tower design, and moved back to something closer to what we saw originally: a tower that sets back from the Boulevard as it rises, and now also seems to get slimmer at the top (presumably to give 30 HY more dominance over the airspace).

Then again, what do we really know about Related's plan? This could just be an old model that was convenient to bring out for this event. But I'm crossing my fingers that this is representative of what we'll get, since I like what I'm seeing: it's almost an Art Deco massing, and I enjoy the interplay between the 50 HY setbacks, 35 HY setbacks, and the rooftops of 55 and 15. A little organized chaos.

Like I just said, we don't really know anything about Related's plans for this tower -- most of their press material still doesn't include any info. If that model posted above is what they're currently planning, I would say it looks roughly equal in height to 35 HY, which will be 308m.

BlackRock narrows search for new headquarters office
The investment firm is no longer considering moving its Park Avenue office to 2 World Trade Center

http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article...o-hudson-yards
Quote:
BlackRock has narrowed its search for a new, nearly 1 million-square-foot headquarters to the Hudson Yards, several sources familiar with the firm say.

The investment company, which currently has its offices in two buildings just off Park Avenue, is considering space in either one of two proposed towers in the West Side neighborhood. Sources said the firm is also still seriously weighing a renewal of its present space in the office buildings 40 and 55 E. 52nd St. BlackRock has 2,800 employees in the city.

Out of the running is lower Manhattan, where the firm in recent months had considered anchoring a new office tower at 2 World Trade Center.

On the far West Side, BlackRock is eyeing 50 Hudson Yards, a tower that developers the Related Cos. and Oxford Properties Group are planning to build on the corner of West 33rd Street and 10th Avenue. BlackRock is also considering space in a 1,005-foot-tall, 2.85 million-square-foot building that landlord Tishman Speyer is planning one block north of 50 Hudson Yards. The Spiral, Tishman Speyer's project, is designed by architect Bjarke Ingels and features exterior terraces that resemble a staircase.

That's not 50 HY, but rather its neighbor one block to the north.

BlackRock zeroes in on 50 Hudson Yards for headquarters
http://therealdeal.com/2016/11/10/bl...-headquarters/

Quote:
BlackRock is in talks with Related Companies to move its headquarters to 50 Hudson Yards.
The asset manager is negotiating to take 850,000 square feet at the planned 62-story office tower, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The firm, which manages $5.1 trillion in assets, had also eyed Tishman Speyer’s the Spiral at 509 West 34th Street, but, according to the Journal, seems to be leaning toward Related’s property. If the deal goes through, it would be one of the biggest office leases in the city this year.
...
The firm is expected to make a final decision as early as by the end of November.

If that happens, hopefully we will get a building of the supertall type at about the height in the thread heading description. 850,000 square feet is a nice chunk...what is the total proposed amount of square footage?
