Scaffolding is going up on the old Coach building, so it will finally be demolished.

This seems like the perfect building for a facadectomy

It's actually insane to think that that was one of the biggest/tallest buildings in its immediate surrounding not too long ago, now it looks like something that came out of a lunch box.

Can't wait to see this tower start rising!!! Just a funny thing I noticed though, it looks like this SNL skit used the backdrop at the McDonalds that occupied this site. The old Coach building can also be seen.

In Toronto they completely reconstructed the facade of an older building in the construction of the EY Tower, from scratch. They should easily be able to do it in NY.

they do that in NYC as well, but only where appropriate. (two notable recent examples being Steinway Hall and Brooklyn Dimes Savings Bank), The original building probably wouldn't fit well into what's envisioned here: an absolutely massive office tower with a large footprint. Its not that great of an old building, either. Only the entrance is nice. Plus its sandwiched by 30 Hudson Yards and BIG's Spiral.

No, I find the repeating square facade and the hyper-clear glass to be pretty foward/advanced looking. Sure, the overall form is boring, agreed there. I still think this is better than 55 HY.

I really like the design. Not that it matters much considering the tower won't even be visible from most angles, being almost completely surrounded by supertalls.

For my money, this is a perfectly competent, mostly unremarkable tower. A little heavy, slightly awkwardly proportioned. My main issue is that it will obscure views of the more interesting 30 HY, and fails to related to the other towers in the complex in any interesting way.

Meanwhile, once someone pointed out that the BIG 2WTC design would've been a perfect fit here, I can't stop dreaming about what could've been...

I must say I'm glad the Spiral and 3 Hudson Blvd will essentially block this building:

Only in New York can a supertall tower be so invisible and insignificant. You gotta love it!
