Man, that is a nice neighborhood. It's insane that that is within walking distance to Soldier Field. Pretty Cool.

Here is a very quick, crappy, rendering with a spire. I thought that the spire should be placed in the center of the grey part sticking up and that acting as sort of a shield around it, if u can understand that. IMO, it doesn't look too bad.

My less-than-stellar attempt:

But I think it might be nice to cap off the south end of the Grant Park skyline with a nice spire.

I see your spire is as big as mine, now let's see how you can handle it.

Should we really base architectural decisions on things that don't look too bad? Perhaps it would be better if we aimed for things that looked good.

A spire on this building is even more superfluous than most. The tower already has a very well thought-out crown, why would we need to add anything else to it?

I saw OMP yesterday and it really seems to be rising fast now. Also, great progress has been made on the facade, which looks absolutely fantastic. Didn't have my camera on me though . I'm starting to get the feeling that this will be one of my favorite buildings in the city when completed. I think the crown is going to look awesome. This deserves a

Just drove by the site again yesterday - looking sharp - the corners are really well done, nice & crisp, like oragami folds.

This is off-topic, but does Chicago have any plans to put those railroads and Columbus Dr. underground? That would really make Grant Park better. Plus, those railroads are ugly.

if this building is finished before Burj Dubai is, can the developer claim that SOM copied them?

Hello Adrian Smith fan. Nice talking to you.

The concept of this tower owes a lot to Burj Dubai.....although not nearly as $killfully executed.Think of it as a Lexus trying to be a BMW. Anyway, that's what I see in it.

Despite this, I applaud the height. I applaud DPD trying to create the 3rd wall of Grant Park.

Setback Comming

Look for another significant transfer floor and set back to happen on the south wing on the Metra side. I was looking at the model and it looks like it takes place 10 floors above the first setback. I counted them pouring 8 yesterday.

It's not surprising to find similarly designed towers sprinkled about the globe. Rem Koolhaus expresses serious skepticism as to the limits of skyscraper design; after all it is finally one basic form--a tower. I think this real limitation can be relieved by incorporating a more encompassing sense of place into a tower's design with details more reflective the spirit of its inhabitants.
