Yea, there was one (USA-Mexico fútbol match) played in Chicago last summer. And another in Houston just a couple of weeks ago. One thing that was very interesting about that match at Soldier Field was that the Cubs and White Sox were playing to a sellout crowd at Comiskey Park at the very same time.

OT, but how many matches and how many years has it been now since the USA lost to Mexico on USA soil?

(IIRC, the only two Mexico wins during that entire streak, including World Cup matches, have been in Mexico City.)

it's just not coming together like i'd hoped it would. to me it feels like a really good tribute band, not the 'real thing'. trump's building - to me surprisingly feels like the 'real thing'. maybe it's just SOM's experience at doing high rises shining through?

^I'm inclined to agree. The tower as a whole just seems so disjointed. At the time that the renderings first surfaced I thought that the various forms, setbacks, and facades that were thrown together in the design made the building interesting. Recently, however, it has dawned on me that the building is still "interesting" but the word now takes on all of the negative connotations and not really any of the positive ones. The word "haphazard" seems to come to my mind when I look at this building now.

I think the East elevation looks better than the North, especially from close-up/looking up. Hopefully, when the scaffolding is removed from the West side, the profile from the North will lighten up a little more.

I was a volunteer this morning at the Shamrock Shuffle 8K run. I worked the finish line, handing out bananas to the racers. I brought my camera along and still had the skyscraper forums in mind!

I really do like this building. I know other's did not like the way it turned out, but I personally really like the design. The only thing I wish could happen is to push it up a little north of where it is. It gets left out too many times when the Adler pic location takes a pic of the skyline.

i think the biggest problem with this building is that in order to really 'enjoy' it, one has to go to a specific viewing spot designated by the architect because in some views, it looks pretty fat and ill-proportioned. case in point, the southwest elevation from the dan ryan.

a highrise is not an in-fill 6-flat building with one facade. as such, it is responsible for looking good from more than one viewing angle.

This building is absolutely impressive from it's size, location and nautical theme. A new landmark!

I would have to agree as well that it's suddenly become something of a landmark on the skyline. Especially from the West/Southwest sides of the city.

You have the usual big 3 buildings, but then Bam, this guy is just hanging out by himself south of downtown. The general lack of tall buildings in the area makes this stand out greatly. Especially from Grant Park, it's all alone looming over the south side.

so by the same methodology, the miglin-beitler tower out in oak brook, illinois is a landmark.

let's draw a distinction between the terms 'landmark', and 'geographic anomaly'.
