that huge slab of concrete running at the side of the building is completely reprehensible.

Im still on the fence with this structure. I guess it's because the structures opposite to it are far superior.

It's in the process of being cladded. The concrete won't be visible.

Speaking of cladding, do you know how far along this is? Nobody seems to have any pictures of this and I haven't been to the South Loop in a few months.

Edit: Is that the cladding visible in the lower left of you picture above, i_am_hydrodgen?

Only 3 floors worth has been clad on the SW concrete wall. It's been taking a while and will probably continue to take a while. It looks great though IMO.

thank GOD. at least that'll make it look a little more respectable, but in my humble opinion, the exposed concrete was merely a symptom of the greater disease: lack of sophistication/experience. at night it will still be a black facade- only now with spandrel glass on it.

all in all, there are only certain views of this tower that flatter it and then just barely. in my world, that's still called a wasted opportunity. a building with this height should look good all the way around, not just from designated scenic viewing points....see Trump if i'm not making my point here.

A while back, if memory serves, the developers went back to the city to make that tower taller and thinner; any final disposition of that request? Or better still, does anyone have recent or revised renders?

Thought this might interest some of you...

Dear South Loop Neighbor,

The City of Chicago Plan Commission is set to review Central Station Towers 3 & 4 on Thursday, June 19.

Last fall we discussed this project and you provided your feedback and conerns. We took that feedback to the Alderman and were told a Citizens Advisory Committee would be formed to review 2nd Ward projects in the future. It appears this project has not been reviewed nor your feedback taken into consideration.

It is a basic principle of urban design and city planning to avoid shadowing public space. The developer's own master plan and Planned Development ordinance promises not to shadow public or private open space, and sets a 400-foot height limit for this area. The Near South Community Plan, adopted in 2004, included the same height limit. Chicago's zoning ordinance forbids approval of a Planned Development that does not comply with adopted plans.

If you are concerned about the 780-foot and 900-foot towers proposed for Roosevelt Road between Indiana and Michigan Avenues, please contact Alderman Fioretti TODAY.

Urge him to remove the project from the Plan Commission Agenda and seek further public input. These buildings, as proposed, will significantly shadow Grant Park, Chicago's most significant open space. Most of the area south of 11th Street will be in dark shadow most of the year.

A letter has been posted to our website for your use:
www.southloopneighbors.org

Send your signed letter via fax and/or contact the Alderman's office directly at:

2nd Ward Office:
Phone: (312) 263-9273

Fax: (312) 786-1736
City Hall Office
(312) 744-6836

ACT TODAY!

Thank you ? Mike Kelly for South Loop Neighbors
