Race to build tallest building intensifies

From an architect’s point of view, Sarly also agrees that more tall buildings will follow suit. His firm, [SA]2 is involved in a number of towers exceeding 100 storeys for the Ultrapolis project – Melaka Smartgrid City 2030. One of the upcoming developments is 1Financial Trade Tower, a 110-storey tower which is part of the financial centre in Phase 2 of the Melaka Carbon Free City, Smart Grid City 2030.

Sarly is of the view that the biggest obstacle to building tall especially in places like KL is not technology itself but rather the supporting infrastructure such as road network, sewage lines, district cooling, etc.

never heard about Smart Grid City 2013 before, but this seems to be a heck of a project. this being in Phase 2 makes me wonder what is included in Phase 1 and when the phases are set to be starting or set to be done.

edit: at university the render didn't even load, so now i can see it, wow looks great and very tall. let us hope for a megatall.

Some info:

It's the upcoming developments. More details will be coming soon. It's the government initiative to move towards Energy integration to support projects such as Solar Energy and EV cars rollout.

Besides, we are also overwhelmed by the government proposal to build a bridge to link Melaka to Sumatra Indonesia.

Malacca revives straits bridge project connecting the state to Dumai, Sumatra

Posted on October 16, 2013 - Featured, Property News.

Artist’s impression of the proposed Malacca-Dumai bridge.

The bridge spanning the world’s busiest shipping waterway will also be the longest if it is built together with a 71.2km-long highway between Pulau Rupat, the closest connecting link in Sumatra, and the port of Dumai.

The Malacca Government has revived the controversial 48.69km-long Malacca-Dumai, Indonesia, bridge project across the Straits of Malacca, after a seven-year lull.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said finer details of the project linking Teluk Gong in Malacca in the peninsula to the port of Dumai, in Sumatra, would be revealed when all mechanisms were in place.

If implemented, the bridge straddling the busiest international shipping waterway would be the world’s longest, even without including a 71.2km-long highway to be built between Dumai and Pulau Rupat, the closest connecting point.

“The project was discussed during the 10th Chief Ministers and Governors’ Forum (CMGF) of the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) convened in Koh Samui, Thailand, on Sept 12.

“The forum took note of the economic potential and strategic positioning of the IMT-GT with the construction of the Malacca-Dumai Bridge,” Idris said yesterday.

Insights on a feasibility study on the bridge undertaken by Strait of Malacca Partners Sdn Bhd were given during the meeting.

Work on Energy Smart Grid City Malacca to begin 2014

Will transform Malacca into Asia’s first smart grid city.

The Energy Smart Grid City Malacca and the Green Special Economic Zone Malacca projects are parts of the greater “1Malaysia Smart Grid Nation” project that aims to make Malaysia a smart grid nation by 2020 and eventually carbon-free.

The project will be rolled out across Malaysia in phases. The first phase, the Rembia Nucleus Smart Grid City, is a Green SEZ expected to contribute some US$96 billion a year to the gross domestic product.

Some 20 research and development (R&D) centers will be built, employing 6,800 engineering professionals in the smart grid industrial, renewable energy and clean technology sectors in that area and up to 300,000 new green jobs.

Construction of the first 15 MW solar farm in Alor Gajah, Malacca is expected to begin after the receipt of government approvals.

Masers Energy Malaysia Sdn Bhd, which will build the smart grid city and the Green SEZ, will invest US$72 billion in the projects.

not much info yet, but i added the building to SSP for now with what we have. My estimated height is 550m for now, which is not visible, because estimated heights do not show up and only are for where to place the building in ranking in diagrams.

A 49 km bridge would be very cool. But also very expensive to build.

I am more interested in the bridge especially if the bridge between Sumatra and Java gets also built.

It makes you think about a High train speed link down to Jakarta

Hmm, I'm not too impressed with the renders. Right now the tower looks like some background building from a sci-fi movie.
I'm not worried about that though, because the chances of it being built like that are almost none. Renders like this almost never get built.
I think something might be built, but there will probably be a redesign if they are serious.
