Riga, Latvia, October 2013

Riga is a beautiful Baltic city, famous for its well-preserved old town and art nouveau architecture. My photos, however, are not so much an attempt at documenting any particular sights within the city but rather a collection of impressions that I experienced as a short-time visitor.

This is my home, and some pictures are embarrassing, and I personally hate the building of academy of science, but it's how it looks. Thank you!

Thank you for your comment! I kind of regret for not managing any good pictures of the city center which was very beautiful, especially the art nouveau district. However, whenever I visit a new city (I had actually visited Riga before and already seen the center a few years ago) I am usually more interested in roaming the outskirts, residential and industrial areas than the center or "touristy" areas. When I visit places, I try to come home with a series of photos that would portray its various sides.

Why should they be embarrassing. They reflect reality, Latvia is not the richest country in the world, nor is it among the poorest. We have some nice looking new or renovated buildings and happy people, and we also have some old, neglected and decaying areas and poor people... That's just how it is. I hope that it improves with time, but running for wealth we might also lose our distinct architectural heritage and get places full of modern boxes instead of old wooden architecture, for example.
