PHILADELPHIA | FMC Tower at Cira Centre South | 223m | 730ft | 49 fl | T/O

Quote:
FMC Corp. has agreed to move its headquarters from 1745 Market St. in Center City into the new tower that Brandywine Realty Trust has been trying to build, NE corner of 30th and Walnut Sts. in University City, for the past 5 years. The $341 million FMC Tower will rise 47 stories -- 650 feet -- and include 575,000 sq ft of offices, 10,000 sq ft of retail -- plus 260 apartments. Adjoins a 2,000-space parking garage built by Brandywine that also serves IRS workers at Brandywine's former 30th St post office nearby.

650 feet is, unfortunately, 198 meters so this should be in highrises unless the 650 figure is ballpark

1.) The guidelines for the skyscraper section state that buildings that are either 200m+ or 650ft+ belong in it.

2.) Multiple people more knowledgeable of this project than me on skyscraperpage gave a 656 ft figure, which is exactly 200 m.

This is a significant development for Philly. First 200m+ tower since Comcast and the city's 6th 200m+ building.

Reminds me of the Ritz Carlton Hotel in LA, not only because they look the same but because they have the same height, are both build just of the main skyline and are build after a long time without big constructions.

Really great stuff! Now Philly needs to build over the rail yards and make this part of town a second skyline.

Drexel, Amtrak, Brandywine weigh giant development plans

Quote:
Officials at Drexel University, Amtrak, Brandywine Realty Trust and other city and West Philly institutions have been sitting down with developers in recent days to review proposals to build over the tracks at 30th Street Station and link the grandiose proposed Drexel Innovation Neighborhood and its high-rise, Rockefeller Center-like "Superblock" at 33rd and Market -- whose 6.5 milllion sq ft, by itself, would be more than four times larger than the proposed new Comcast office tower -- and other new Drexel-area construction to Center City, highways, the airport, Penn, and, you know, the rest of the world.

“We are in the process of determining and selecting a winning bid. My understanding is we should have that process wrapped up in the next several weeks,” Amtrak spokesman Craig Schulz told me. Amtrak and the other big neighborhood and public institutions asked for developer proposals last fall.

Drexel President John Fry hopes to boost the university's enrollment by nearly one-third in the next seven years, to 34,000, and invite both corporate employers and emerging firms to share the campus. Other private area colleges like St. Joseph's and Villanova are also trying to expand under threat of the declining college-age population in Pennsylvania, whose economy is growing more slowly than the rest of the U.S. Drexel's proposals are extra ambitious.

Brandywine has a big stake: The Radnor-based firm controls five of the 10 largest Center City buildings and is the main class-A office landlord in West Philadelphia, with its current and proposed Cira towers, including the 47-story FMC building scheduled to begin work this year.

Ground broken for FMC Tower. Maybe is time to change the status on the title.

Once this and CTIC are finished Philly will have THE GREATEST SKYLINE IN AMERICA. Philly is the most exciting U.S. city right now, despite so many people refuse to admit it.
