I would like to say something happened with me first time I saw this Trade Central District location next to Emirates Towers. I saw around the construction area pictures on the wooden boards of old Rashid trade center, and a sentence under it says " history is rising again"
And for months I had the believe that they are doing the coolest project ever
in dubai, which is rebuilding the exact shape of Rashid Tower but in a form of supertall tower (300+ or 400+). Cause Rashid tower was and some how still an Icon of Dubai and UAE, UAE until now have this tower picture on the 100 DHS bill.
Honestly, I was disappointed when it turned out to be false news.
but imagine if that project is proposed, I think it will be best in this location between to Emirates towers and the old rashid tower which they would give a stunning view with old short and new tall same city icon. Just imagine

Exhibison centre (in concourse facing SZR its the buildings on the left the Rashid halls) will be demolished once the exhibision city is complete in 2009. The 4 WTC residences will be demolished as part of pahse 2 and the WTC tower will be refurbished in the future. The villas at the rear will be demolished to become an indoor arena and in the final phase a signature tower over 100F will be on the corner facing SZR.

This hotel is the one on the plot of the old club (directly behind WTC residences) which is has just been demoilished and the basement excavation is underway so technically this 91F building is U/C

Thanks, for the info, SA BOY Having this one set back from SZR will help create more density in that area. Very cool indeed!

Any idea on how tall this beast is?

And could a mod please change this one to U/C. Thanks.

An update.....

Hard Rock aims to manage eight hotels in the region
By Shakir Husain, Staff Reporter
Published: December 07, 2007, 00:10

Dubai: US-based Hard Rock group, which operates about 125 rock music-themed restaurants in major cities, aims to manage eight hotels in the Gulf and Egypt by 2015 as it begins an aggressive foreign expansion push.

The company is keen to develop its hotel brand outside the US as at present only two of the eight operating Hard Rock hotels are outside its home country.

"We have been pretty successful in establishing our hotel brand in the US. We are looking at both the Middle East and Asia as strategic expansion areas," chief executive officer Hamish Dodds told Gulf News.

Agreement

Hard Rock Hotels, which operates four and five-star hotels, resorts and casinos, announced last month it has signed an agreement for its first Middle East hotel in Dubai.

Dodds said the 91-storey hotel will become the second tallest building in the emirate. It will be located in the Dubai World Trade Centre area, giving it proximity to Burj Dubai, the world's tallest tower. The Dubai hotel will comprise 350 guest rooms and 100 serviced apartments.

Talks with potential investors are under way for building Hard Rock brand hotels in Abu Dhabi, Doha, Bahrain and Cairo.

"That is where our primary focus at the moment is," Dodds said, adding that the Sharm Al Shaikh resort and Hurghada in Egypt will also be considered later.
Seems like this thing is destined to be HUGE!!!!

Dubai World Trade Centre, one of the Middle East's most prominent business organisations, today launched an international design competition for the second phase of its major Dubai Trade Centre District development.

An artist impression of the Dubai Trade Centre District.

Designs are being sought from the world's leading architectural practices, and the area to be developed will include the District's Landmark Tower, which is expected to be one of the most striking structures ever developed in the region.

Sir Michael Hopkins, considered one of the world's greatest living architects, will head the judging panel, which has been charged with selecting the 'apex of architecture' in terms of design and sustainability.

'Dubai Trade Centre District will provide the headquarters for some of the world's most dynamic companies. It will create a unique urban environment at the heart of Dubai, that will surpass the top business destinations globally,'
said Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General, Dubai World Trade Centre.

'We are aiming for the highest possible standard of architectural design across the project, and this second phase - which includes the Landmark Tower - is among the most important in terms of defining the character of the whole development. The aim of this international competition is to encourage the best practices in the world to deliver their strongest possible visions,' he added.

Sitting at the heart of Dubai, alongside the central Sheikh Zayed Road, the Dubai Trade Centre District offers a unique opportunity for major designers to capture world attention. The project has already attracted expressions of interest from almost every major architectural, engineering and development company in the world.

In addition to world-class standards of design and development, submitted entries will be required to incorporate key elements of sustainable design and architecture into their vision for the District. DWTC was among the first companies in the region to build sustainability principles into the heart of its development strategies, in line with the directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Dubai Trade Centre District was among the first in the region to be designed to be built according to the highest LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Standards. Submitted entries will have to demonstrate how sustainability principles will be executed upon through the complete development lifecycle, including design, construction, operation and maintenance.

The current schedule means that the successful architect would be announced at MIPIM, the largest business property show in the world, which is being held in Cannes France in March 2008.

91 stories, over 500m and also a hotel? Not possible. Maybe they're only talking of it being taller than the emirates towers.

This one along with Landmark Tower will act as superb counterweights to the Burj Dubai just down the road. The skyline on SZR is going to go from being great, to being awesome!
