My opinion on Shaik Zayed Road skyscrapers is that a nicely designed building stands out and it's not lost in the mixt at all, while many older crappy buildings get actually obscured and the skyscraper wall as a whole works and looks very good and certanly imressive.

having just come back from dubai, this building is definitely in the wrong position on sheik zayed road. it would look better on the opposite side of the emirates towers and more set back from the road.

The plots are well defined in location, but I would have preferred this Hotel to be elsewhere in town. There are way to many Hotels in that part of the town and all of them cater mostly to business travel which is not exactly the clientèle of HR Hotel.

The Dubai Hard Rock Cafe is real landmark structure located very close to Dubai Marina and we heard recently a rumor that it will be demolished alongside the Hotel complex it is attached to, and to be replaced by a 125 floors supertall. That location would have been perfect for the Hard Rock Hotel and it would have preserved the spirit of Hard Rock Cafe there.

BTW, recently a plot in Sheik Zayed Road was sold for AED 180 million ($49.2M). I'm wondering if it is the plot for this tower.

I have to disagree with that. Architecturally speaking, the goal of an architect should be to blend buildings that forms a cohesive city when it comes to design. Dubai is lucky in the fact that it is new and everything there is new so there are not many challenges of incorporating design unless building in a historic part. If just getting something built without site consideration happens, arrogant buildings are constructed that are far out of place.

im only saying that not everything that looks different or special automacically is beatiful. experimental architecture is a nice thing, but interesting doesnt mean good looking to me. sometimes it just looks weird

An article today at world architecture news:

This project P-17 (no word about Hard Rock) should have 77-plus stories and 379m.

That's a great height without a spire, hope for over 90 floors, but that's still awesome
