Hamilton, Ontario: A beautiful night out downtown (November 2013)

Hey everyone!

I paid a visit to the city of Hamilton, Ontario (Population 520,000, Metro 720,000), which as many of you may or may not know, Hamilton is the center of Canada's steel-making industry, it is located at the very west end of Lake Ontario, about 70 km (50 miles) west of Toronto. Today, while Steel making very much exists in the city of Hamilton, the city's biggest economy is healthcare innovation, thanks mainly to the city's McMaster University research facilities. It is the 9th largest city in Canada and the 3rd largest in Ontario (if you count metro populations). Don't let the blue collar-feel and steel mills fool you about this place. While downtown does need a bit of work (although a lot has been done and will be done to fully revitalize it), many parts of the inner city are actually quite nice.

I came to the city for the first time since February for a night out and to catch the AHL hockey game between the Grand Rapids Griffins and the Hamilton Bulldogs!

After the game, I took some night time pictures of downtown Hamilton on the gorgeous evening that it was and got some skyline shots @ night…

Started off downtown, had some dinner and drinks at a sports bar and live music venue called Stonewalls, on York Boulevard, within walking distance of Copps Coliseum

the bartender told me it's been open for 3 years and it's doing well!

The awesome bartender recommended the Lobster mac and cheese, so good, with garlic toast!

I broke down and had dessert, too, a peanut butter blast piece of cake or pie or something…

After dinner, headed to Copps Coliseum… hard to believe this building is 30 years old and has never attracted an NHL team...

Nevertheless, it's still a great arena...

Bruiser, the Bulldogs' mascot being himself, lol!

After the Griffins made it 5-0, a goalie change happened...

Not long after, the Griffins scored again. They scored 3 times in 73 seconds, craziness!

Some rough stuff ensued later in the game...

The Bulldogs scored with about a minute to go in the third period to break the shutout...

Griffins win this one, 6-1!

Outside, took some pictures downtown @ night… including one of the soon-to-be-complete 16-storey Homewood Suites hotel

You know, in some ways, King Street resembles Toronto's Yonge Street back in the 1980s.

Thanks, Jaborandi, really appreciate that. I'm working on my night shots an having an upgraded camera is definitely a plus. Although I should've used my tripod here.

Capricorn, I actually don't live right in London, it's a town in the London area, which is about 125 km from Hamilton, so about 80 miles, but pretty close. Yes I did drive home after this. It was a long drive, but well worth it!

I also got skyline shots from coming up from near Highway 6 as you're descending into Hamilton from Clappison's Corners.

Here are the skyline shots I got from Old Guelph Road, looking east towards downtown:

Afterwards, took some skyline shots of Hamilton, but not from Sam Lawrence Park this time, but from a lookout on Old Guelph Road...

I thought these skyline shots I took turned out the best, made them larger resolution...
