They just announced their first new destination in a long time today....Baku, Azerbaijan. Hopefully this the beginning of the next round of expansion!!

More sensible expansion. If only they decided just to grow organically few years back instead of going for M&A route they would be better off now.

I wish they expanded more in N. America....the Etihad JFK flights are a big hit. I hear the LAX route also does reasonably well.

If they moved from SFO (which they will terminate end of the month) to the other side of Bay area, San Jose international, they would get all that south Asian transit passengers from Silicon Valley. SFO is just too far and expensive to get to...

There is also Houston, the energy capital of the world that could easily get all that oil and gas traffic to the Middle East...However they would have to compete with EK and QR but then again QR has lost all access to the other energy capital of the world, Saudi Arabia!!

Canada is another market with they could lobby to get more seats...(I know they did and lost in the past) but times have changed!!

SFO is only 30 mins from San Jose so it's not that they're missing the market. It's just that literally every Asian carrier to the Bay Area caters for the Indian market and there's a lot of competition. I've flown CX, TK, SQ, EK and EH all from SFO to the Indian market. It's very competitive, but more so for just a global connector airline (others like CX, TK have traffic to their home markets which can buoy demand anyway)

I'm sure they are all eagerly waiting for positive outcomes. Would love to see them increase frequency to Toronto on daily basis, perhaps adding Vancouver.

Its such a shame they didnt realised that they have CBP which is so convenient. SFO being discontinued is such a shame. Instead of cutting like u suggest, they should fly to more points in North America. Boston, Atlanta, Houston (not that close to DFW anyway) and maybe one of the airport in Florida.

The fact that AA does not want to tie up with them anymore is also messing things up for Etihad. LAX/DFW loads are mostly codeshare passengers with AA.

The information about delays has been released every few months for the last 4 years. There are a number of reasons for the delay, the main ones are:

-ETIHAD is leaking money and oil revenue are lower so the Government is trying to limit money drain.
-There is a shortage of money generally.
-Many workers and companies went to Qatar to build World Cup facilities as they were offered better money there.
-The contractors built the roof wrong (no one discloses what the major issue is) but it has something to do with airflow and structural integrity. There have been some rumours that it heats up too much and the temperature inside is unbearable.

50% of the reason for the Qatar UAE/Saudi conflict has to do with regional economics!! It is not all 100% political as commoners like us were made to believe!!

There are stories that Etihad is announcing a downsizing by half yearly time in January with its A330-200 fleet lined up to go first.

They would have to cancel the hundred's of planes they've ordered before cutting their existing fleet significantly...
