NEW YORK | 19 W 55th ST | Pro

They will demolish some fairly nice old buildings. However, given the very high-end locale a very fancy, 50-story tower should rise here.

I ask the following question strictly out of curiosity and in no way out of bigotry. Why is it that just about the only people who lead major development projects in Manhattan Jewish?

I'd guess around 750 feet is the max height. How much sf does JDS have at Steinway?

15-17 West 55th Street has some interesting facade details, but 19-21 is just bland imo. The 5th Avenue Presbyterian Church on the corner, and 700 5th Avenue across the street from that church are way more interesting than either of those apartment buildings. To be fair though, there are random other buildings along that street I would label even more bland than 19-21. I don't believe NYC is losing anything special here.

There's a horrible building just west of this site that should be acquired. By the way, across the street from here is another development site.

Yeah, that one right next to 19-21 is just disgusting. There's also a 5 floor green building on the opposite side of the block that is just as wretched.

Weird that this entire block, except for 712 5th Avenue Tower, hasn't been 3D modeled in Google Earth.

I think the green building is on 56th between 5th and 6th, and it's one of several that are being razed and redeveloped by a London-based hotel group.

Yep, it's the next street over with tiny windows, and ugly green paneling. Good to hear that it's going bye bye. Hard to even recall the last time I saw something that bad architecturally. Perhaps I haven't.

http://therealdeal.com/blog/2013/02/...t-56th-street/

Here's the article re: the new British hotel to be developed on 56th. Apparently, that site extends to 55th and includes the ugly garage, which will be razed. As it turns out, Firndale Hotels, site is contiguous with Assa's site. It would be nice if they could partner and develop a 950' tower.
