They are still digging in the main lot, I don't know exactly where on the site the tower portion will be.

CetraRuddy's Undulating Midtown Skyscraper Begins its 700-foot Ascent

CetraRuddy's Undulating Midtown Skyscraper Begins its 700-foot Ascent
Today, September 9, 2016
https://www.cityrealty.com/nyc/marke...ot-ascent/5782

Quote:
Progress continues at 242 West 53rd Street in Midtown West, where CetraRuddy’s proposed 59-story tower has now begun to rise. The site previously hosted Roseland Ball, the renowned NYC live music club, and its demolition was mourned by many. Developed by Algin Management, the new mixed-use residential building will top out at 625 feet, hosting 426 no fee residences and three stories retail space at the base levels. The tower will host residences ranging from studios to two-bedrooms units, as well as some duplexes on the upper floors and a four-bedroom penthouse to top it all off.

I've been noticing that construction in New York is just astonishingly fast! (Exclude Central Park Tower) Every project I've seen just grows at an incredible rate. Does anyone have an answer as to why? Is there something that they do here that other projects don't?

New York City projects are spectacularly slow until they get to about 3 or 4 floors above street level. Then they get to the repeating apartment or office floors and then it is really easy to just place the rebar cages, the forms, and pour concrete. Forms are left in place for 5 to as many as 12 floors or more to let the concrete fully cure while they work above. As long as it isn't too complicated, like with 56 Leonard, they can go at 2-3 floors a week. This one used what they learned at 56 Leonard, and they will likely add any additional balconies and shapes of the floor much later, allowing the main body of the tower to move faster so they can install interior elevators and mechanical systems and get the interiors done. In the end, the faster it is done, the faster they can begin to recoup their investment through sales or leases of units.
