Well, to answer the question of what does it take to convince me that they can pull off the Sky City they said they can pull of, this building is the answer. If their method will work in this building it is realisticaly possible that it could work in a 737 meter building too. If they can reach the promissed speed is another question, but if they need more time with their first supertall, they should take it. Better safe than fast. And if this works out, the speed might get faster and faster in each new broad supertall/megatall

if they can build this tower, doesn't mean they can build a twice as tall tower, however if they can build this tower they might secure the opinion of other companies to invest and government to approve so they can at least try to build it :P

Really? Just compare the structural elements of 600m+ towers with 300m ones. The differences are immense. Just because a construction method is suitable for a supertall doesn't mean the same applies for a megatall too.

Well, that is why I said "realisticaly possible" not "realisticaly certain". I used to think that what they claimed was impossible. If they can pull this building off I will think it is possible, but far from being certain. I won't take their new method as certain until the megatall itself is fully built

Didn't you used to argue this construction method is only good for the 30 floor "no tower" tower not a "real tower"? Now you saw them building a 97 floor tower and changed the story to it's suitable for a supertall but won't work on a megatall......

Just saying...

No, it was my point from the start that for a megatall you need concrete elements, such as a core.
At no point I said that J97 couldn't be build from pre-assembled steel parts.
I only refered to the 30 floor buildings to compare the structural elements which are already much larger on J97. Now imagine that on the scale of a megatall... won't work out.

Just because it hasn't been done before doesn't mean it can't be done.

No one else has seen this article in the flipboard?
http://nextbigfuture.com/2014/05/bro...-complete.html
Quote:
Now there are photos of what is reported to be a 97 story skyscraper built with Broad Groups factory mass production techniques, but the photos are from March, 2014 and show about 24 stories completed. It appears that Broad Group is not trying to build purely for speed in this case as they seem to be taking 1-5 days per 1-2 floors. So it may take nearly all of 2014 to complete the building at this pace. This would still be very fast for modern skyscrapers. It would be slightly faster than the construction of the actual Empire State building (15 months to build). This is slower than the 2 to 3 floors per day that other high rise buildings made by Broad Group.

The 97 story building might be over 50% complete now that we are in May.

The 97 story building would be
Antenna 1316 ft high
Roof 1146 ft high

didn't see the flipboard in a while. nice article, nothing new though. what we need is new pictures to confirm how slow or how fast it currently is.

Name any other supertall that has no recent info and no recent pictures! What is going on here? This single page started in March and it's almost August. AND this is being built in a major Chinese city!
