Cafés, thee houses and breakfast spots

Everyone loves a good hotel, or a nice restaurant, but for me, the places that tell the most about a place, are its cafés, teahouses and places for breakfast. I find that often, restaurants try to look ellaborate or sophisticated, but they are often poor reflection of the city outside. Hotel restaurants are particularly guilty of this. Also, restaurants are places where you more or less have to go with company. A café is a place where you can actually meet someone. Or go alone if you want. Spend time. Read a book. See the locals in their natural habitat!

Show your favorite, or best-looking, best-designed or most popular cafés in your city or in places you've visited.

I will start very locally, with images of cafés and breakfast spots in my own neighbourhood, the Condesa district of Mexico City.

i personally love having my coffee outside, watching the world go by. This is especially pleasurable in Europe, of course. Here a few places in Madrid, Spain.

Another thing I love, is the cafés in museums and galleries. They often have cool designs to match the architecture of the place. Often, too, the coffee and the food are terrible!

Also in Madrid, here is the cafe in the Caixa Forum:

This is one of those artistic cafe/bar streets of Istanbul.

Thank you, Doguorsi! Is this a unique street, or are there more? I really want to visit Turkey!

Hola! Como estas mi amigo ? There are a lot of streets like that in Istanbul. This is one of the more famous ones but others are pretty warm and catchy too. Let me post some more when I get back home. I am on my phone now.

Hasta luego!

929 Coffee is really the only quirky cafe/hipster dive in Starkville.

Very good those Kenian cafés! I was aware of their coffee culture, but not about their design. Thanks, Urban!

Vienna was one of the first places in Europe to develop a distinct café culture. But here we have a more contemporary style. The Orlando di Castello café in Vienna.
Photos by me.

Some really cool design, here! Is there an area of town where these cool places tend to concentrate?

Not surprising East Africa has been developing a coffee shop culture, isn't coffee heavily cultivated there?
