Many cities have this problem, it would seem. London being the one that springs to my mind.
Ah well, all we can do is hope that this is built with no height reductions.

Miami still has like 3 1000+ buildings planned though and London already built the shard at 310 meters.

If San Francisco can build a 326 meter building so can Seattle, SF is one of the most NIMBY filled, anti-highrise cities ever and we seem to be doing pretty well here. Good to see things are changing

It really shouldn't be a problem. A straight ILS approach to Boeing Field doesn't get any closer than 2 km away from this proposal site.

Seattle's First Supertall

I think we need to face the facts ... the FAA overrules the city height limits. Assuming the Columbia Center is as tall as the FAA would allow, then the 888 Second Ave. can't be any higher above sea level. That puts a limit of about 315 m. or about 1038 ft.

Still a great height for this city.

That assumes that the FAA's attitude hasnt changed at all in 30 years. Thats obviously an absurd assumption. FAA could very well approve something taller now than they did way back when Columbia Tower went up.

True but is this even a real proposal? Who is the developer behind it?

I can't really imagine Seattle building a ~1350 foot building but anything taller than columbia center would be amazing... hopefully I am proven wrong and they build the west coasts new tallest.

That's pretty bold, though I like it. I wonder how well it'd blend with the rest of the city, but it's not the worst thing to have a particularly singular tower as a landmark.

Awesome! Seattle deserves a new icon and it looks like they'll be getting one.

Until they're hired as architect (and get into the scoping/design process a bit), this is just a hypothetical drawing. I've seen no annoucement.

If I remember the location correctly this site is actually at a lower elevation than the Columbia Center and some of the taller buildings in the city. Even if it is the tallest in the city will its height be enough to actually look the part? IMO, that part of the D/T sits on a much steeper slope. At least it seemed that way when I had to run to catch the last ferry to Bainbridge Island.
