What a bizarre use of sarcasm. I'm German, too, and the weirdness of the sarcasm used fries my brain, can only comprehend science, engineering, sausages and football. All further humour must be in either of those four categories.

I don't really think failures of big projects in China are all that over-reported in Western media, though. I've only ever seen one or two articles about it in past years. Now if this was in India, BBC News and other British media would be reporting every single failure, all the way to each instance of a worker dropping a pencil, headline news!

These diagonal columns in the last picture look really weird. Why would they start in the corners of the building only to make a huge shift after two storeys? It doesn't seem to be beneficial structurally, nor architecturally

If you follow the load path, you'll notice there is no column on the corner of the building. So structurally, it makes perfect sense.

It appears they've been able design the corner so that it has a full view out the window. It's actually quite an efficient design.

You miss the point. I was wondering why they make a shift instead of having the columns rise from the right place from the ground on, like on all the other sides of the building.

Hmm, maybe it acts as cross bracing? Or maybe its just the necessary connection between the position of ground level columns and columns higher up.

Now the question is, which source is more reliable?

we saw these heights before on CTBUH as well. 300m might have just been n estimate and now they have the real detailed heights.
