They are pretty much the same, 777's are going to be fitted with new cabin interior soon. They are angle-flat I believe. Economy cabin will remain same. A310's will retire in a few years, I don't think it's worth the time and money.

LOL! pretty much. There are special Train/bus services between Lahore and Amritsar for Sikh pilgrims who visit Lahore every year. Businessmen prefer air travel over bus and rail service.

PIA sell-off: PC kicks off process of picking financial adviser
Quote:
ISLAMABAD: As the government formally begins the process of hiring a financial adviser to sell its stake in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), it has decided to pick a communication strategy firm as part of a consortium of advisers to meet the expectations of stakeholders.

Five international consortia, which were vying for appointment as the adviser, gave presentations to the Privatisation Commission (PC) on Tuesday.

Every consortium must have a communication strategy firm in its fold, which can frame a plan on how to manage expectations of people with the aim of carrying out PIA privatisation smoothly.

PIA privatisation process to be initiated on 22nd: minister

Quote:
ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Privatisation Mohammad Zubair has said the process for privatisation of the Pakistan International Airlines will be formally initiated after the appointment of a financial adviser on July 22.

In an interview with BBC Urdu, he said the privatisation process would be completed by June next year. “In the meantime, we will hand over the management to a private company after selling 26 or 51 per cent PIA shares to it.”

The PIA has 16,600 employees with a fleet of 35 aircraft, but nine of them are not being used for different reasons.

So, will the A320s be used on its Indian and Middle Eastern rotations? And what's the seating configuration like on board?

Plus, I think the A320 on PIA livery works well, especially that it is on the road towards privatization since it gives the airline a fresh breath of life after decades of government control. And I am looking forward to hearing good stories regarding it, especially that some of the B737s are gone.

And also, when will the new Islamabad International Airport be opened, and will all airlines currently operating to Benazir Bhutto International be moved to the new airport all at once?

These a320's will be used on domestic, sub continent and Middle Eastern destinations, they are is currently configured to carry 180 passengers in all-economy class layout. Aircraft configuration will be changed to accommodate 20 business class passengers.

NIIA is supposed to be operational by next summer, no news on moving schedule yet.

Interesting. How many of those A320s will keep the all-Y seating, and how many will have the J and Y configuration (and how many seats left for Y in that case)? Plus, will the aircraft with J class have PTV and AC adapters on board those too? And I hope that the airline will consider getting the A320NEO, as well as other members of the A320 family, so that it can retire its B737 fleet for good and allow network expansion soon.

These A320 will be configured to carry 126 Economy Class and 20 Business Class passengers. I'm not aware of the ptv's, AC adapters yet. 737 retired a month back, 747's are next in line.

PIA plan: National flag-carrier to procure more aircraft
Quote:
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) chairman Muhammad Ali Gardezi said on Saturday that the national flag-carrier would induct five aircraft in its fleet. He was speaking to journalists at the airline’s office. Gardezi said the board of directors had approved the decision. He said PIA was expected to reduce losses by 44 per cent after inducting the ATR 72-500s. Gardezi said the aircraft would arrive in December. He said this would bring the total number of ATRs in the fleet to 11. They can seat 62-66 each passengers and will be operated on domestic routes.

Gardezi said the management was also planning to induct 10 Airbus A320 aircraft on a six-year dry lease. He said these would join the fleet in 2015. Gardezi said the airline would be operating 11 ATRs, 13 Airbus A320s, nine Boeing 777s and five Airbus A310 aircraft in 2015. He said the A310s would be replaced with state-of-the-art Airbus A330 aircraft if circumstances permitted.

Any idea which A330 type will the airline get for its operations? There are two main versions, the -200 and -300. The -300's range is improving quite significantly that it could be used for routes to Europe, Asia, and beyond... The -200, on the other hand, can do really well for long-haul trips without the extra weight found on the former. And also, the A330 will be expanded to have the -800 and -900X series soon.

Perhaps the A330 will be much better in fuel efficiency while carrying more passengers per flight... daily nonstop flights between Karachi and Southeast and East Asia would be possible with that aircraft type.
