Watching towers come down is almost as much fun as watching them go up.

Wow those units were tiny. I heard some familes managed to squeeze 5 or 6 people into one of them. Sardines.....

I don't understand how taking people who treat their place like garbage (not all) will act any different in these new buildings?
St. James towers anyone? Many of the units were condemnable based on how people like hoarders treated their space (there's a now/eye story a few weeks back about the buildings) |

WOOT WOOT. You know I'm right (an btw I'm a Socialist) People don't deserve better living environments if they treat their space like a garbage dump. Watch hoarders. There's a lot of people that live like animals. |

No, everyone will live in harmony, no old school problems. Everything will be fixed. I'm as left as you can get ... but people like you are an embarrassment to the left. Why don't you vote for Rob Ford .. you're so naive - and blatantly dumb ... you don't represent the left. |

Prediction: Regent Park will still remain 3rd world crap in 20 years.
Can't fix the problem without fixing the people. x percentage will work to run down the properties. They will cause the collapse of "our" good intentions. |

I don't represent the left. I voted for Harper last election. I don't align myself to the left or the right. If you represent the left you're doing a dreadful job of it. I was actually part of the Smitherman team during the last election and I've already been to one Transit City anti Ford rally. How about you? This election I may vote NDP for the first time, and in September I'll vote Liberal for Queens Park. You need to learn not to be putting people into molds before you know them. That goes for the people of Regent Park as well. First you disesteem the entire population of Regent Park, then when you're called on it you start ridiculing me. It's rather amusing. If I was a betting man I'd say you're only 15 or younger and don't really grasp social issues yet. When you mature a little you'll discover that everything isn't as cut and dry as you make it out to be. Until your testicles drop and you get an education I would suggest keeping your ignorant comments about people to yourself. A little FYI, the new Regent Park is being built for people of all economic standings. image hosted on flickr ![]() Taken by Sean Marshall of UT.

Hey look, I'm no fan of the idea of mixed income housing. Personally, I think you would have to be half-baked on crack to considering buying at market rates in these buildings, knowing what the likely outcome is... But before I go casting judgement on this social experiment, I'm going to sit back and wait for a while. So far, it seems to be working out OK... I just hope. I do think rushing to copy this model all over town is somewhat of a gamble, considering we don't even know what the outcome is going to be yet for Regent Park. Give it a couple years and see if it performs the way it's supposed to at least. One thing I can't believe is how many people in Toronto live in TCHC housing. It's pretty unbelievable how many people are living in some form of subsidized housing. Is this really sustainable? I mean, there is already a 2 year backlog of applicants, and the city is in a huge budget deficit position. You can blame Ford all you want, but that didn't happen on his watch.

This models not a new one. This is just being turned into an area that is like most others in the city. Mixed. Regent Park as it was built was more of an experiment that ended up failing. Regent Park will no longer be a low income area of the city.

"crack dens" are more your perception of low income housing rather than the reality. The majority that live there are recent immigrants who end up leaving for the burbs anyways.

The arts centre looks like it's almost topped out. I love the high ceilings.
[/QUOTE] I can't wait to see it when it's all finished and Regent Park is completely transformed. |
