WELLAND | Welland Club condominium | 12 fl | Approved

Located at 1 Griffith Street, south of and adjacent to Merritt Park, and next to the old canal.

12-storey Welland condo tower OK’d

The tallest building in Welland could soon grace “the best location in town.”

City council Tuesday night approved zoning changes to allow a 12-storey tower to be constructed where the historic Welland Club building once stood before it was destroyed by fire in 2011.

It will be the tallest building in the city when complete — a title currently held by the 10-storey-tall Jubillee Apartments on King St.

So this is just south of downtown and it will almost be right next to Welland's current tallest building, just north of it to be exact.

Giving Welland a very small skyline, if you can even call it that. Thanks for the update, Matt!

Looks like a nice project.

Welland has about 50,000 but it's one of those places you never hear anything about.

So, it appears nothing has been done with this condo yet. I didn't stop in Welland over the summer, but Google Street View doesn't show any construction as of July 2015.

This project appears to not be getting anywhere, 4 years after it was proposed. I wonder if it has anything to do with mandatory 50% occupancy, or whatever the provincial law is?

Here's a picture of the site from August 2017.
