Part 8: Finally ABC!

Day 7; From MBC to ABC!

This day we finally go to our maintarget of this trek: Annapurna Base Camp.
This place lies at a height of 4130m above sealevel. From MBC its only a few hours walk.
ABC's location is just stunning!! Awesome!
You are surrounded by mountains all over 6000m tall, including the 8091m Annapurna I, 10th highest mountain of the world.
And the you are thinking, I am allready 4 km into the air and still looking at 4km of ice and rock!

208.
Let’s Go!

209.
Great zoom in a valley with the Annapurna III (7555m) at the end.

210.
For me those words should be the other way around.

211.
Looking back at the Fishtail and cool surroundings!

212.
Yes we are at basecamp, with Annapurna South at the back.

213.
Yess I made it!!

Me (again).

223.
Small people in a BIG mountain world.

224.
My highest point of this trip; 4250m with views of ABC.

225.
Icy worlds.

In the afternoon it was around freezing @ ABC. In the night itself it got -10 Celcius. Pretty cold but still manageable.
A bit of challenge when you need to go to the toilet which was located outside of the rooms, although in the same building.

Part 9: going down again from ABC

Day 8; From ABC back down again to Bamboo

After a good night sleep and some cold temperatures we woke up pretty early.
Since we are here we do want to see sunset on those mountains around us!

226.
Purple skies early morning.

227.
Upper part of Annapurna I has a nice orange colour.

228.
Other mountains tops also get to first sunlight.

229.
South face of the Annapurna I, so that how 4km of extra rock and ice looks like!

230.
ABC with Fishtail.

231.
Someone enjoying the great views.

232.
Cold enough??

233.
Frost flowers on the glass of the dining/breakfast room.

After breakfast and packing our stuff, so the porters could carry those back down to Bamboo, we went on our way trough familiar grounds.
Only now we 'walk down'...

234.
Contrast.

235.
The valley still looks stunning.

236.
Back in a green world.

Day 9; Bamboo - Jhinudanda

On day 9 its more walking down the valley.
Till just before Chhomrong. After crossing the river again its a long way of climbing the nepalese stairs again.
After a very good lunch at the lodge we stayed at a couple of days ago it was still more staires.
And after that it was steep down towards the little village of Jhinudanda.

237.

238.

The final part of the trekking.

Day 10; Jhinudanda - Ghandruk

On day 10 we walk to the largest village in the area; Ghandruk.
From Jhinudanda we first walk further down so we can cross a river again.
After that its uphill again for a long time.
But its a walk of the beaten track trough rural areas with lots of farmers and agriculture.

244.
It ain't a bridge, but more some wooden poles and some rocks for crossing the river.

245.
The water of this river did have some good speed!

246.
Jhinudanda with white mountain tops.

247.
Agricultural down in the valley.

248.
And on the hills.

249.
Does give us some really cool views!

After our teastop at a families house it was some more walking. First down and we needed to go up again for our guesthouse in Ghandruk.
Because the lodge was higher up in the village it did gave some great views over the valley and other parts of Ghandruk itself.

250.
Typical buildings in Ghandruk.

251.
In the village.

252.
Our way down is blocked!

253.
Almost goodbye for the mountains...

254.

Day 11; Ghandruk – Naya Pul / Pokhara

On the last day it was only down the mountain to Naya Pul. There our bus was waiting for taking us back to Pokhara.

255.
Pictureperfectpostcard.

256.
Still a long way down! Offcourse trough nepalese steps

257.
Back in the hectic world

258.
We missed this a couple of days

Our 11day hiking in the Himalayas is over. A great adventure is a beautifull landscape.
Sometimes it was pretty hard, sometimes even a bit cold/chilly, sometimes even get out of bed very early, but hey it was worth it all the way!!
After a day in Pokhara we went on toward the Terai area near the border with India. there Chitwan N.P. was waiting for us! So next time we will be there.

thanx for all comments!

A bit further this species lies along the river and keeping a close eye to us!
A mugger crocodile.

268.
Slowly along the river and enjoying the scenery.

Part 2 Chitwan N.P and some rural scenes

During our jeeptour we had a break at the Gharial breeding center.

280.
Gharial up close.

281.
Nice colours in the elephant grass.

During the jeeptour we saw lots of birds, the boars and crocs even one bear crossing the road in front of us (but to far away for a decent pic) but no rhino....
Till a group member, almost at the end of the tour, was standing in the jeep and saw something grey in the grass..
Yeah again a rhino.
In the beginning it look like to take a charge at our jeep but in the end it stood still and ate his/her grass in relaxed fashion...pfewww

282.
Impressive!

283.
Funny ears!

284.
In its green 'garden'...

The morning after we decided with a small group to rent some bikes (he we are dutch aren't we ),
and go see something of the surrounding area outside the village and national park.

285.
Going to school..

286.
This school.

287.
Streetscene near the school.

288.
Rural.

289.
The school even had some dutch influence and sponsoring also!

290.
Somewere....

291.
Chitwan NP and the rhino's look far awar riding here.

After our biketour in the morning some of us also took the elephant ride, a good way to get very close to the rhino's, if you find them offcourse!
the tour itself was exciting also since the elephant doesn't walk on nice layed out path or so but 'bashing' around to the green and dence forrest!

292.
First we need to cross the river.

293.
Bushbush.

It took a while but in the end they found the rhino again. We were very lucky since we found two! And one of them was a little one! Cute!

294.
“Little one”.

295.
Mama is not far away!

296.

297.
So cute!

Next part we take the bus since we need to go to the final place of our Nepal trip; Bhaktapur.

Bhaktapur

Last part of the Nepal trip: Bhaktapur

Our final place we visited during the holiday was the third royal city in the Kathmandu valley; Bhaktapur.

Khatmandu is just 'around the corner' but the atmosphere in Bhaktapur is really different!
In the morning and evening quiet with only locals and few tourists. the most of those come during the day as a daytrip from Kathmandu.
Bhaktapur has a lot of beautifull, old wooden buildings, palaces and temples with a nice relaxed atmosphere.
Since Bhaktapur is also a royal city it has its own Durban Square.

Our hotel was just around the corner of Durban Square.

316.
View on Bhaktapur (1)

323.
The Vatsala temple and the Pashupatinath Temple (1475)

324.

325.
Temples are plenty!

326.
Very beautifull wooden carvings.

327.
Lots of statues at the Siddhi Laxmi temple.

328.
Statues up close and personal.

329.
Pashupatinath Temple.

330.

Thanx for watching and reactions!

A great holiday with a nice combination of cities, hiking and spotting wildlife!
People are so friendly and helpfull, safe, great food, cheap.
This year I go back but now for the 17 day trekking to the Gokyo lakes and Everest Base Camp.
Takes longer and we do get a bit higher also Climbing some hills for great views (Gokyo Ri 5357m & Kala Pattar +/- 5545m).
Crossing the Cho La pas at 5380 with its glacier at the top.
Offcourse EBC itself and staying one night at Gorakshep (over 5000m)
And not lets forget the flight to and from the Lukla airport offcourse!
Now its only hoping for the same great weather I had last year...

If I could make a pic or two like this one.... (big pano from Gokyo Ri, you can see 4 8000+ peaks!)
