according to the list I count 21 buildings completed , topped out or U/C with another six in prep? So a total of 27 buildings at 300 meters or above at various stages of completion .

Surely only Dubai has more tall buildings.

Kingkey Gangxia Redevelopment.
Upcoming redevelopment project for Gangxia village in Shenzhen.
They expect 550m and several 200m+ residentials.
Unfortunately the porject is still to concept, hope we can open a thread anytime soon.

Amazing news! This area is in serious need for a change, so close to Ping An and yet so underdeveloped.

Isn't Kingkey exaggerating it a little bit with their proposals?
I mean they proposed the Caiwuwei Redevelopment with a big fat 760m maintower, an additional 608m tower and countless 200m+ towers, they proposed this project now with a 550m office tower and more then ten 200m+ towers, and then also there is the Kingkey Hubei village redevelopment which also includes a supertall and the Shuibei redevelopment with a supertall and several 200m+ towers. It seems highly unrealistic to me that they will be able to build all of that, especially when you consider that they always have to demolish a whole urban village before they can start with the towers....

I totally agree. I hope they don't become a new Evergrande.

At the same time, it baffles me that so many major developers avoid going >350m in Shenzhen (Greenland, CITIC, Baoneng...)

if they build even half of all that I will be impressed.

well 350m is the special number after all. At 350m you need more paper work to get done and include the government not just regional government. Shenzhen has also been pretty restrictive for foreign (non Shenzhen) companies. I know that this restriction was lifted, but that might be a reason as well.

At least this is what I gathered from browsing this forum in the past.

I deleted around 150 idle or long term projects. I don't think we should cover them in a ranking as long as they are not clear or feasible.

Some forumers may be disappointed since the last ranking I posted 2 years ago showed almost 400 supertall projects. If I had followed the same criterion for this ranking then it would include 500 positions very easily.

However I think we shouldn't cover long term plans since they are very often to come out with either way taller or shorter heights, if built. I also deleted all the projects that have shown no activity or announcements in years, keeping only those which are taking forever due to its multiphase nature (Shenyang Eton for example).

There are indeed over 80 long term/reserved/masterplan supertalls that were excluded. And that includes more than 20x500-680m towers. If included, the ranking would look way more impressive, but I honestly think there's no point at all. What's the point of a monster ranking packed with obscure and uncertain proposals, mere plot numbers, etc.

Concerning old proposals, we've seen tens of cases where projects that had been idle for up to 10 years were eventually revived, started and finished. So many of them should come back indeed. I excluded many projects especially in Tianjin, Chongqing and Nanning, very frustrating and sad at the same time honestly.

The aim of the list is not a mere "look at how many proposals there are". More likely to present what it is actually likely to be finished within say 2025. I really think 90% of these towers will be either completed or well advanced within 5-7 years. Not sure about some of the megatalls though.

But once again, expect many, many deleted projects to come back, many excluded "long term" ones to be started and completed. And of course, include countless foreseeable newcomers to be unveiled.

400 completed/topped out supertalls by 2025 is very realistic imo.
