http://img85.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img85...aerial17l3.jpg *heres a birds eye view

More imformation on Penrith Plaza.

The Gross Lettable Area (GLA) covered by the expanded Centre will be approximately 83,800sqm (excluding the refurbished Red Cow Inn and Borec House office space).
2,500 cubic metres of concrete will be used in the construction of the additional level of carparking for the Jane Street multideck.
50,000 cubic metres of earth.
250 concrete columns will be used to support the new extension. On average each of these columns is positioned 12 metres into the ground, reaching the rock floor.
To complete the new building the equivalent of 2,500 truckloads of concrete will be used.
A tower crane has been positioned on the construction site. The crane is 38 metres high with a reach of 70 metres. At full reach the crane can lift the equivalent of one 4WD and at a shorter reach it can lift the equivalent of four 4WD's.

The Red Cow Inn is part of Penrith's history and has been a local landmark and centre of social activity for nearly 140 years. With the Plaza redevelopment Lend lease are refurbishing it back to its former glory.
The process will be carried out by heritage professionals following a detailed survey of the existing building and its history.
The refurbished Red Cow will still operate as a tavern and become a family oriented gathering place steeped in the history of Penrith.

Penrith Plaza is committed to creating energy saving initiatives as a result of the redevelopment.
One of these initiatives is ensuring that new retailers to the centre install energy efficient lighting. The features of the energy efficient lighting include reduced energy consumption and greater life span of the globes (exceeding
the life span of traditional bulbs). This initiative therefore has both environmental and financial benefits.

May I also add that Stocklands have submitted with Holroyd Council an application to expand significantly Merrylands Mall. A very popular complex which is due for an increase. They purchased last years property stretching across the road from their existing centre and all the way over to Merrylands including where the old BBC is.

Should look good.

And dont forget to mention the new Rouse Hill Town Centre. That will be one great big whopper.

Do you know where exactly Rouse Hill Town Centre will be located?
Is it close to the proposed Mungerie Park station?

Parramatta Westfield - joins to train station A block of prime government land in the heart of Parramatta's central business district has been sold without tender to Frank Lowy's Westfield so the company can link its shopping mall directly with the new $100-million train and bus interchange.

The development includes a new skybridge, funnelling commuters away from businesses at street level directly into a new cinema complex and Westfield's shopping centre and carparks.

The budget committee of the NSW cabinet has given approval for Parramatta Rail Link, the authority in charge of the interchange, to negotiate a deal.

The plan was originally opposed by Parramatta Council, which owns the air-space rights over Church Street where the skybridge is to pass. The deputy mayor of Parramatta, Julia Finn, said the bridge would be unsightly, "extremely damaging" for street-level businesses and would remove pedestrians from Church Street.

But at an extraordinary council meeting held three nights before Christmas, a majority of councillors rescinded their original opposition but resolved to seek Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) advice on the plan.

The council voted to "request advice from the ICAC on the appropriateness and legality of the State Government entering into exclusive negotiations with Westfield and whether this is in accordance with State Government legislation on the issue."

Councillors also required Westfield to give a minimum of $50,000 a year for at least five years to promote business and cultural activities in and around Parramatta's Chinatown - the area directly below the sky bridge. Westfield will also be asked to pay for an independent study to find ways to encourage more street-level traffic.

The Parramatta shopping complex is Westfield's largest in NSW and also contains an ageing Village cinema complex.

The state-owned land is bounded by Church, Fitzwilliam and Argyle Streets. Westfield proposes to house 11 new cinemas for Village on the western side, opposite its shopping centre and adjacent to the rail and bus interchange. The eastern side of the block is earmarked for restaurants and cafes.

It is understood the Government believes the development will improve the amenity of the area at night, particularly around the transport interchange, and would allow better use of existing car parking, and avoid more traffic in the CBD.

A Westfield spokesman did not want to comment on the council's move yesterday, but said the company always followed due process.

Yes indeed. Its supposed to have a rail station. Its more than retail, its also offices, apartments, etc. A modern day Chatswood, Parramatta, Hurstville, etc.

Good start to the thread, Mr Maloney, some info on the projects at hand, and location details for anyone interested...

Rouse Hill Town Centre

Mungerie Park/Rouse Hill centre is to be located (if you look at a street directory, I recommend Sydway) on the eastern side of Windsor Rd at Rouse Hill, just south of the intersection of Commercial Rd and opposite Schofields Rd. The entire development is to comprise:
100,000sqm of retail space (normal and bulky-goods retail)
40,000sqm of office space
10,000sqm of health space
2500sqm of library/community space and medium density residential.

Stage one will include 65,000sqm retail, 17,000sqm commercial and community and 200 residential units.

Stockland Merrylands

Stockland Mall at Merrylands, the latest new proposal for western Sydney, is a long-overdue upgrade of the existing shoping centre, which includes one of the busiest Kmart's in the country. Details of tenants are not currently available, however the centre will have an extra discount department store, extra supermarket and the cinema complex (built in 1999?) will be relocated to a site in Merrylands Rd, across McFarlane St from the rest of the centre. The entire centre will be two levels and extend from Pitt St in the east to Treves St in the west.A large portion of the existing centre will be demolished. End size should be approx 65,000sqm.

Current status is in front of Holroyd Council awaiting approval and likely amendments.

Westfield Parramatta

@ncik, Parra won't be overtaking the current largest centres in Australia after its current extension. The additions should amount to approximately 15,000sqm, which will see it remain smaller than Knox City, Westfield Southland and Chadstone after its proposed extensions.

The extension at Parramatta includes an underground mall of approximately 40 shops leading directly between the food court on level one to Parramatta station. The level above this will be street-facing retail/restaurants, above this will be the new cinema complex with 11 screens. The current cinema complex will be redeveloped into a new mall with about 30 stores (on level 4 of the existing centre).

Currently a lift core has appeared on the Argyle Street site, and digging for the tunnel under Church St has commenced. Floor plates are inthe process of construction for the street level.

Westfield Mt Druitt

Construction work at Westfield Mt Druitt is well and truly underway, with the former Myer store fully gutted and a lot of demolition occurring. This is a rather unannounced expansion, entailing the conversion of Myer into speciality stores and Coles supermarket, the current Coles (former Franklins Big Fresh) to be converted into Target and a new mall built linking these two stores across an underused section of carpark.

Completion is due towards the end of the year and is a fairly low-budget exercise considering the size of the project.

Westpoint Blacktown

I took a few pics of this one a few weeks ago, the extension is having a huge impact on the skyline of Blacktown and the roof of the new cinema complex is even higher than the Civic Tower complex. The new centre upon completion will be approx 105,000 sqm, and is the largest shopping centre redevelopment currently taking place in Australia. The existing centre will be fully refurbished and a very large propoertion of stores relocated due to major restructuring of the mall configuration. Target, Woolworths, Big W, Franklins, Best & Less and Rebel and the food court and cinemas will all be relocated and expanded, Coles will be added along with about 150 new specialty stores.

The centre will open in stages, with stores in the new section opening first in March this year, and then stores in the existing part of the centre opening at the ebd of this year/beginning of next.

Macarthur Square

This large expansion will see the relocation of the existing food court, cinemas and bowling alley in a new extension across Kellicar Rd and reaching Macarthur Railway station. The centre will expand by approximately 25,000sqm.

Current work has covered approximately two levels and the shell of the new centre is mostly complete. It is a very large site where construction is taking place and completion should be early next year.

Penrith Plaza ...Live Life

Petermaloney has covered this pretty well already, although I have to put a few pics in still...

Hope that wasn't too long and verbose. NSW is currently seeing a shopping centre expansion the likes of which it has never seen before- with Westfield Tuggerah also under extension, and Rhodes Waterside and Bondi Junction just completed. To start in the next year or two are Bankstown Square, Stockland Merrylands, Westfield Kotara, Roselands, Castle Towers and Macquarie Centre (both again...) and possibly the Westfields at Hurstville, Liverpool and Miranda and a total redevelopment of Top Ryde shopping Centre (demolition and new construction).

Cheers

Yep, pretty much the site next to the Piazza going toward Showground Rd, and also proper integration with Castle Mall (which they bought 2 years ago) once the ring road is completed in a couple of years and Old Northern Rd becomes quieter...

I love Castle Towers, some good variety and great shopping - shame about the food court though it is pure crap. Good to see some high class brand name shops there also.

I am surprised they are extending it though - not something I expected to hear.

Good work with the pic, Petermaloney, nice view from close to the station. With all the mesh fencing going around the entire site, I wasn't able to take a pic yesterday when I was there (oh and the rain!)... they're getting there, I think it should be finished end of the year?
