Example 2. If such road is being upgraded to motorway standard, what type would it be on Your list?
Both 12 b/c they are not yet grade-separated. Example 1 would probably be realigned. In general, 1 is used if only the 1st carriageway is built (1x2 or 2+1) but there will be a space-reservation for a 2nd carriageway (2x2 or 2x3). 2 is typically used if the conditions for 1 are fulfilled and the 2nd carriageway is built (1x2/2+1 --> 2x2/2x3). 21 is similar to 2 but originally used if the former road isn't dedicated as a motorway. I usually don't use 21. The legend was used by Autobahn-online.de, example 1992.

1x2, 2+1, 2x2, 2x3 etcetera does not show the kind of construction b/c you can't see the former and the future situation.

The German Ministry of Transport uses 02KK for the 1st carriageway with 2 lanes but w/o hard shoulder. 03KK for 1st carriageway with 2+1 lanes. 24KK is an upgrade from 2 to 4 lanes w/o hard shoulders. 24KB is an upgrade from 2 lanes w/o hard shoulders to 4 lanes with hard shoulders. 04KB is a new 4-laned road with hard shoulders, 06KB a new 6-laned road with hard shoulders etcetera. This could be an alternative but I don't think that it is much easier to understand.

Ok, so one last question.

What if there already is a grade-separated dual carriageway that is NOT officially signed as motorway and there are some upgrading works after which it will be signed as motorway?

Or if for example an Italian 2x2 grade-separated superstrada gets upgraded to autostrada?

Like the L705 in Bochum, Germany, which will become the future A448? 12, see first post .

According to my original rules which only contained motorways: 12. But there was a protest less than one hour after my first post... According to the present-day rules it should probably not be listed...

Is it the only such project on the list? (I didn't find any more with the "rededication" note. Or maybe you don't differentiate them and this note is there by accident?)

Well, anyway, this is also such "rededication":
S8: Warsaw-Powazkowska – Warsaw-Modlinska 12 4.6km (October 2013 to October 2015)

Correction for Latvian A12, Nirza-Terehova was already opened some time ago.

A12: Ludza – Nirza 1 17,8km (2008 to October 2014)

Thanks .

This was my source and I thought I've only taken the section which is still u/c (January 2014):

Theoretically, you could add A12, which is U/C currently, though the second carriageway wont be built soon, due to very low traffic intensity (1816 vehicles in 24 hours).

But, here it is: A12: Ludza - Terehova 1 32.7km (2007 to Fall 2014) – projectmap

Some parts of the road near Terehova are 2+1.
Well, it think it was correct (February 2014):

The third part is on a stop, since it's winter right now.
Was it also already opened for traffic and just some remaining works ongoing?
When exactly has it been opened for traffic (I haven't seen a post) .

I mixed up something in february. Nirza-Terehova was opened some years ago already. Ludza-Nirza section was on hold for a year or so, currently the works are resumed and the last section of the project should be opened to traffic by October this year.

I doubt it will be opened in June.
Instead, this one:
S8: Lask – Roza (S14) 12 9.2km (October 2011 to July 2014)
is likely to be opened in June, because it is already completed.
Well, it is not so easy to handle - especially Polish projects. I try to check this overview regularly and I usually update my list according to this information.

Nevertheless, I will move S17 to July and S8 to June .

Pakistan

E-2: Peshawar Northern Bypass 12 32km (February 2010 to October 2014) - project - ?
M-4: Faisalabad-Multan 12 241km (August 2009 to 2015) - project - map
M-8: Gwader - Ratodero 1 892km (September 2004 - 2016) - project - map

Also does your meaning of motorway stands as an access controlled highway, if not, should I also include access unlimited highways?

Thanks . I've already planned to add some more countries. I guess I should add some soon.

Access-controlled and grade-separated (exceptions could be little crossroads in the middle of nowhere)! The road should feature two carriageways or the construction of the 1st carriageway must contain at least space-reservation and preliminary works for a 2nd carriageway.

According to your map, The M-8 is already completed!? Are there sections not yet completed?
The M-7 south of Dadu seems to be u/c too!?

Can you please specify the project? Thanks in advance.

M8 is not a motorway. It's a new two-lane road to Gwadar, but doesn't have a single interchange, nor a special reservation for another carriageway.

M10 around Karachi is also not a motorway, but a two-lane road with intersections. It can hardly be even called a high standard road, it's just a bypass, quite unlike the other motorways of Pakistan.

The National Highway Authority of Pakistan considers both M-8 and M-10 as access controlled motorways. M-10 is planned to be a 6-10 lane dual carriageway motorway but due to limited funds and corruption, the project has been in limbo for quiet sometime.

The M-8 has 3 main sections, 1 is under construction, 1 is suspended due to security related issues and 1 is under land acquisition phase. M-8 is being developed under the National Trade Corridor Initiative sponsored by China. It will be a 2 lane access controlled motorway in the first phase while in the second, another 2 lane carriageway will be added to it.

There are little to no interchanges as it scours the mostly empty expanse of Baluchistan province. Google has stopped showing M-8 since last year, the reason is not known to me.

Sorry for the misleading map but I could only find this one which shown the complete route of M-8 and is big enough. As the project link shows on page 5;
1. The Gwadar-Turbat-Hoshab 193km Section is 68% complete; it is the one with the security issues briefed on page 31.
2. The Khuzdar-Ratodero 143km Section is 73% complete; it is the one under construction.

Ok, road type "1" is correct. Because the 2nd carriageway is also planned, it should be okay to add it to the list, if it is also grade-separated.

Almost no i/c over almost 900km? Does it mean, that there will be crossroads to access the road? Or no chance to access the road for a long distance? What's about the access near the cities, e.g. Turbat and Khuzdar?

Chris reported that (a part?) was already completed in 2009: > click <? Wikipedia says that the Khuzdar-Ratodero road is completed: > click <. Google Maps also shows a 250km M8 b/n Khuzdar-Ratodero (I guess that's the old road, isn't it?): > click <.

The distance b/n Khuzdar and Ratodero is 164km. It is not possible that the road will have 143km only (except it begins and ends not at the city boundries!? Or a typo, 243 instead of 143?

But wikipedia also says "60-km Shahdadkot - Khuzdar section 80% complete". Shahdadkot is between Khuzdar and Ratodero. WTF?

Well, have works on all sections began in 2004?

Here a preliminary list:
E2: Peshawar Northern Bypass 12 32km (February 2010 to October 2014) – ? – map
M4: Faisalabad – Multan 12 241km (August 2009 to 2015) – ? – map
M8: Gwadar – Hoshab 1 193km (September 2004 to suspended) – ? – map

I've no idea about this:
M8: Khuzdar – Ratodero 1 143km (September 2004 to 2016) – ? – map

Normally all major/minor cities along the route are connected by a link road through an interchange as motorways are planned to be far from densely populated areas.

Most reports around the web mislead people in thinking that it is complete but actually only one sub-section of Khuzdar-Ratodero section is complete out of three under construction. Yes, most of the track of this section is based on an old road, while the other sections are on new alignment. I have found new maps showing its progress.

Well, I thought if Chris is the source.........

It is a big difference but if the route is different to the Google Maps route... 143km could be correct if the road begins out of the cities and the route is w/o detours. I'll wait for your map .

Yep, but I only include projects were works have been started, so I will not yet add the 556km section.

PS: I will also add the projcts of Sri Lanka, Marocco and Algeria soon. Maybe also some other countries. I will also also add additional countries, if someone would provide detailed information .
