A very open structure. It has doors on both sides because it is bidirectional, but I have thought throughput at tram stops could be improved if people entered on one side and exited on the other side.

China's first super-capacitor tram produced by CSR, to be delivered to Guangzhou Haizhu Line

The tram has 4 units, with max speed 70kmph.

It's 100% powered by its capacitor, charged while passengers onboard/offboarding. One charge can power the train to run 4km.

Czech-Chinese joint venture targets China’s tram market
01 Aug 2014

CHINA: Tong Hao Railway Vehicles Corp has been established as a joint venture of state-owned China Railway Signal & Communication Corp (66%), Xiangtan Electric Manufacturing Group Corp (17%) and Czech company Inekon Group (17%) with the aim of producing low-floor trams for the Chinese market.

The joint venture is developing a prototype Superior Plus tram, with Inekon preparing the documentation and supervising production. The 100% low-floor trams would be 34 m long, with options for one or two cabs and on-board energy storage for off-wire operation. They would use mostly Chinese components, but doors, air-conditioning and electronics would be supplied from the Czech Republic.

The joint venture has completed a factory at Changsha with capacity to assemble up to 500 trams a year, and expects to submit its first tender for the supply of 25 trams during September. It envisages sales of up to €1bn.

The Chinese market offers ‘enormous potential not only for sales, but also the possibility of production at a lower cost’, according to Inekon Group founder and CEO Josef Hušek, who said CRSC is a ‘strong partner’, able to help with financing. ‘China is now experiencing a major boom and transformation in rail travel, which Inekon wants to be a part of. There are 80 cities with a population exceeding 5 million, meaning there is huge potential to supply trams.’

On July 23 CRSC announced an agreement to buy a 51% stake in Inekon Group from Hušek for an undisclosed price. The deal is expected to close by the end of the year, with Hušek remaining as CEO and CRSR appointing the chairman of the management board and the finance director

1. Wouldn't the trams hit it at that distance?
2. It's surely too far from the platform for anyone to read the detailed prints?

First trams arrive in Zhuhai
07 Oct 2014

The first two trams were built in AnsaldoBreda's Pistoia plant in Italy

CHINA: The first two trams for Zhuhai Line 1 have arrived in the Chinese city from AnsaldoBreda’s Pistoia factory in Italy.

The remaining eight trams will be assembled at CNR Dalian’s factory under a 10-year licensing agreement signed between the two firms in 2012. The five-section Sirio vehicles will be used on the 8·7 km Line 1.

Ansaldo STS is providing its TramWave ground-level power supply under licence to enable catenary-free operation.

Is this the tram referenced in this Railway Gazette article - the one that terminates at Wanshengwei (L4/L8 interchange)?

Yes it is the one.

The section opening in 2014 runs from Wanshenwei to Guangzhou Tower. It will interchange with L4/L8 at Wanshengwei and L3/APM at Guangzhou Tower Station.

Suzhou tramway opens
28 Oct 2014

CHINA: Suzhou’s first tram line opened on October 26, just over two years since construction began, with 12 500 passengers carried on the first day.

Non-passenger carrying test running started on June 28. Between October 12 and 21, 50 000 tickets were provided for local residents to ensure realistic testing and to increase public awareness.

The 18·1 km route servers the southwestern Gaoxin district. It runs west from Suzhou Leyuan, which offers interchange with metro Line 1, to Longkanglu. The route is mostly at grade, apart from a section that dips under a road and a 1 km elevated alignment over a motorway. A depot west of Majian Lu is due to open at the end of this year

...
And the map:

Trial operation starts on Zhuhai catenary-free LRT line
Wednesday, November 12, 2014

TRIAL operation has begun on a 1.7km section of China's first catenary-free light rail line in Zhuhai in time for the start of the 10th China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition

AnsaldoBreda has supplied the first two Sirio bi-directional five-section low-floor LRVs, with the remaining eight to be assembled by CNR Dalian. The LRVs have Tramwave ground power supply technology and supercapacitors developed by Ansaldo STS which allow the vehicle to operate without catenary. China Tramway Corporation, a joint venture of CNR Dalian and Taiwan General Resources Corporation, will supply the Tramwave system in China.

The first phase of Line 1 in Zhuhai is 8.9km long with 14 stations. The line runs from Shangchong, where the depot is located, along Meihua Road to Haitian Park. The test section runs from Zhongda Hospital to Haitian Park.

The first phase of Line 1 will open in the first half of next year. A second phase of Line 1 together with Line 2 are planned.
