Thanks Hunz! I knew it this is Vornado's site, I thought Lex was referring to another site above but looking at the pics carefully it's the Rizzoli site.. Anyway, i really hope for a 900' here. That would be pretty amazing.

Vornado and LeFrak are partners.

How many square feet are we working with here? I was hoping for another 1,000 footer.

The parcels which currently comprise the site (29, 31, and 33 W 57th) are geographically as big as, and likely bigger than, the site at 520 "Park Ave.," and a 780' tower is rising there. Then again, they bought air rights.

The store that occupied the base of 29 W 57th has finally closed. Thus, it should come down soon. It will be interesting to see if the developer will try to expand the site or keep it as is. This location is much better than Nordstrom's or Steinway's.

Roth plans something important with Chinese investors:

http://therealdeal.com/blog/2015/04/...he-nyc-market/

"....Both Blau and Roth hinted that they could seek Chinese partners for new development projects. Vornado, Roth said, will “likely do something important” with Chinese investors in coming years, and Blau noted that Chinese investors were seeking “an active partnership...."

While this could relate to the Hotel Penn, I think it relates to31 W 57th. If Vornado acquires some adjacent sites, it could build a really huge project.

Speaking of Chinese developers, isn't there a long held scenario with Wanda (which is already committed to a huge Chicago hotel/ condo tower) regarding a similar building here? Where likely would a Wanda tower rise if they really want to develop here?

An LLC bought No 35 around 2006, as I recall. However, as per this article, it appears th a t the llc is unrelated to Vornado or its pArtner, Lefrak.

I love this photo ILNY!!! It's amazing work. I would love to see this exact same shot when the Rizzoli, Steinway and the Nordstrom Towers are completed.

Former Rizzoli Bookstore at 31 West 57th Street, photo by ILNY

Old Rizzoli Bookstore at 31 West 57th Street Completely Demolished
http://newyorkyimby.com/2015/04/old-...emolished.html

Quote:
The famed Rizzoli Bookstore at 31 West 57th Street has bitten the dust, to be replaced by a “seven-star” hotel developed by the LeFrak Organization and Vornado Realty. The 109-year-old shop between Fifth and Sixth Avenues shuttered a year ago, despite the efforts of preservationists who tried to get Landmarks protection for the interior.

While the developers haven’t released details on the planned hotel, we do know that the two buildings next door are coming down as well.

The elaborate Cross & Cross-designed building at 29 West 57th Street has already been stripped of its gilded details. Vornado filed demolition applications to knock it down last month, but they haven’t been approved yet. Known as Chickering Hall, the 13-story structure was originally built in 1924 for Chickering Pianos, in a style that combined both Art Deco and Gothic elements.

The six-story building that stood to the left of Rizzoli, at 33 West 57th Street, seems to have been demolished too.

Meanwhile, Rizzoli is set to re-open in a new 5,000-square-foot location at the St James building, located at 1133 Broadway between 25th and 26th Streets in “NoMad.”

Out of curiosity, what makes this site better? Is it better centered in terms of Central Park than the other two are?

It's closer to Fifth.

Considering how well Virnado's sales are going at 220 CPS, I'd be surprised if they don't shoot for the moon here.

http://www.wsj.com/articles/with-man...hin-1431458875

I'm also very curious as to the identity of the LLC that owns Hadassah on 58th and the two adjacent buildings on 57th.

http://therealdeal.com/blog/2012/06/...-hq-for-71-5m/

37 West 57th separates the Hadassah parcel from Vornado's. If these were combined, a VERY tall tower would rise there. Obviously, the Park Lane will be behind it, though Witkoff stated that he will cooperate with adjacent developers.

The scaffolding has come off the little brownstone. I hope that it won't be razed.
