Allama Iqbal International Terminal Under Construction

Lead contractors

For the terminal complex the CAA awarded the main contract to Airsys ATM, leader of a consortium with J&P Overseas Ltd, an international building and civil engineering contractor.

Airsys ATM is a joint project from Thomson-CSF Airsys and Siemens, dedicated to air traffic management systems and airport development. The Airports Group in the UK was also awarded a $70m contract for airport systems construction.

The project was implemented by a consortium of Joannou & Paraskevaides (J&P), responsible for civil and building works, and the Airports Group, responsible for the systems implementation. Airsys ATM and Thales ATM were responsible for the fabrication and installation of the air bridges at the new terminal.

Official Renders of Allama Iqbal International Airport

Original designs were loosely based on the Mughal heritage of the city such as the Badshahi Mosque (King's Mosque), Lahore.

The terminal was also to feature three pearl domes which were later axed.

CAT III ILS Landing System to be installed at Lahore Airport

LAHORE: Passenger hardships may lessen in next fog season 2014-15 as the Civil Aviation Authority is all set to acquire multi-million dollar instrument landing system (ILS) to ensure safe landing of aircraft in fog or zero visibility at Lahore airport.

Officials told Dawn on Wednesday that the authorities concerned had taken the decision in principle and were awaiting approval from the CAA board.

Fog persists in Lahore a month in the winter season. Officials said about 1,000 PIA and foreign airlines flights get affected directly or indirectly in terms of diversion or delay. Officials said the authority would acquire the latest equipment (ILS CAT-III).

This has to abe a CAT III (b) system right?

Earlier they used to complain that due to traffic near the airport northern end the system will be ineffective as it is very sensitive to external factors. How come they installing it now?
