Plans are moving forward for a 16-story residential development at 151 East 78th Street. The site comprises two townhouses — bought back in 2012 — as well as the former Ackerman Institute, which spans 149-151 East 78th Street. Renderings appeared late last year, and permits for the new building indicate the developer is Spruce Capital, while the architect is the highly-acclaimed Peter Pennoyer.

This building is fantastic! Props to YIMBY for finding it!

That is very luxurious. I also like the more traditional design of this tower. it fits very well in this street.

No construction updates, but I managed to find a whole pack of additional visualizations. Lovely ones!

All from the official 151 East 78 Street website: http://151e78.com

This building is scheduled for occupancy by Dec. We need a street presence update.

There's a lot of neoclassical buildings U/C in NYC recently.

I'm glad they are being constructed, especially in such high quality. The sad attempts many architects made at classicism in the 90s and early 00s made me not want them built, but these nice buildings are proof that we still have the skills to build them.

I think it's somewhat connected to what you said first. The "poor attempts" of the PoMo era were needed in order to rediscover what actually makes classical architecture. It was only during that time, that the academical foundation for classical styles was laid again, continuing until today. Architects virtually had to "re-learn" the classcial way, that was almost forgotten during the die-hard modernist-only era.

I'm glad about any architect or office who's mastering both: classical and everything that followed (Robert Stern's office is quite a good example); as long as they're creative or convince with conventional designs in great quality.
