Kalitta Air will be introducing B767-300ERs into their cargo fleet. They accuired first frames, no idea which ones. Probably former pax frames, so conversion will take time. I wonder if they are going to install winglets and ugrade cockpit.

After some patience and waiting, this unique creature came to SFO after a flight from Newark:

United Airlines B767-400ER (reg. N66056)

IMG_3364 by Anthony Nachor, on Flickr

It seems that with the hourly frequency found on the EWR-SFO transcontinental service, United Airlines seems to throw in any available aircraft to fulfill its high-density service and to compete with those doing the JFK-SFO flight.

I can only wish Icelandair will resume service to SFO soon, especially that it used that same aircraft type when it operated that route some time ago (2008).

I think there is a good chance of that happening in the next 2-3 years as Icelandair has implied that the 767 might also be used to open up new routes as well as upgauging existing ones. SFO and LAX are probably the most exciting options for that in the Americas.

I know the upgauging, yes. It will be used for its existing flights to London, New York, and Amsterdam, but, I think a competitor (WOW Air) might do Reykjavik-Los Angeles and San Francisco routes with a different aircraft type (A330).

Yeah WOW is starting KEF-SFO and KEF-LAX next summer on the A330. That's what they announced anyways but I know many people in the aviation business in Iceland are sceptical about their ability to pull this off successfully, this is a huge jump from their current all-narrowbody operations. A big bet that might be very successful for them or a massive failure.

Icelandair also got burned by their earlier attempt at a SFO route. They had a single 767 specifically for that route which can be rather risky and expensive. If they build a bigger 767 fleet, it will be easier to do.

I think that will be used more on domestic and Asian flights, as well as a few long-haul services (notably Honolulu and Vancouver). Yet I am pleased to see that Star Wars is expanding its presence with one of Japan's largest airlines.

N464KC Boeing KC-46A Pegasus (767-2C) - C/N 41274 / LN 1066 was moved from EMC hangar to paint bay AW. This is the 2nd fully functional KC-46A test frame.

First flight should be before end of the year on the 3rd frame to fly.

That should end up having a lot of cycles and logged hours for that plane, especially that the longest possible flights within Japan are around 4 hours tops. Is that the ER version or the non-ER variant?

It's an 767-300ER. It used to do regional routes, but as it was specifically selected to become the domestic plane for the Starwars Campaign it's now flying all over Japan. It closest sister planes are actually still doing international regional routes or have been converted to freighters for ANA Cargo.

ANA's domestic wide-body fleet does indeed clock a lot of cycles, the 767s perform about 5 to 6 flights every day. The same goes for their domestic 777s and 787s.

The 1st Production line KC-46A rolled out of FAL last night. This is the 5th frame built (VH005) and is the first non-test frame KC-46A.

It's appearing to be very old, with aspect of being an old 767 freighter. With the paint will be cool.
