I know that the media wrote about the 30 trams, 15 bidirectional and 15 unidirectional, is also in June was to order another 15 trams, will be 45 units))) Well, if they will be 60 then it will be very cool))) it really is half of the tram park Bratislava, very fine. I am very happy for the residents of Bratislava, soon i hope to visit and look at this beauty;-)

Will they in fact replace more than half of the fleet because many trams operate in more or less permanently coupled sets? That is, one 30 metre tram replaces 2 x 15 metre trams.

I think the old Tatra T3 will be retired (debited), and remain modernized K2S and likely Tatra T6A5. Also will gradually buy new Skoda 29 and 30T

There are 193 T3s according to this:

http://imhd.zoznam.sk/ba/vehicles/1/...stretcars.html

and 243 trams according to this:

http://imhd.zoznam.sk/ba/vehicles/current-fleet.html#

This makes the proportion of 60 Skodas not quite so high. But how many existing trams operate in permanently coupled sets?

240 vehicles means 120 trams, because whole tram consists of two vehicles. 60 new trams then make exactly one half of the fleet.

Another news:

First Iveco Urbanway already in service:

Because the elections are coming in this weekend, workers work at an extreme pace on the reconstruction of tram track in Dúbravka district

A group of transportation ethusiasts saved, reconstructed and presented the original train (Ganz Eg.6) from the famous Pressburgerbahn (or Vienna tram), which used to connect Bratislava and Vienna from 1914 to 1945 and was extremely popular at the time.

The modernized tram track in Dúbravka district was opened in 18th of November (the date was changed three times to be ready for the elections )

However, public transporation activists argue, that this "modernization" is an epic fail. The new track has several problems - some stops are not barrier-free, the change between trams and buses is not solved and the track is without grass, as promised before...

According to Wikipedia, the S7 line now uses this same right-of-way as did the Pressburgerbahn. What would be required to extend the S7 service to Bratislava? The track seems to end at Wolfsthal. Has the old right-of-way been built upon on the Slovak side?

EU backs Bratislava tram extension
Monday, February 02, 2015

THE European Commission has approved a €63m grant from the European Union Cohesion Fund for the €78.6m extension of Bratislava's metre-gauge tram network to Petržalka

The three-station double-track extension is already under construction and due to be completed by the end of this year.

The project includes the reconstruction of the 460m Stary Most bridge across the River Danube to accommodate trams

As construction of the new tram line to Petržalka continues, first parts of the track were laid (after 53 years!):

First sections of the new Danube bridge are almost above the water:

There is already date of the start of operation for the first new trams - end of April/beginning of May

The corridor in Wolfsthal is still there, you can see it in Google Maps. However, the land was sold. I heard the town so far did not permit building on this former rail corridor, so technically it would be possible to reactivate the railway - after expropriating the current owners.

Haven't been about the place in quite some time now, but has the modernisation of the tram terminus right next to the main station (hl. stanica) already been completed and if not, any idea as to when this is going to happen?

The tram network is fairly small and you'll have a great chance to see all currently operated trams in Bratislava if you are in the very centre.

Currently, there are no new trams in service. We just obtained 4 of them which are being tested without passengers and it is rare to see one so far. The deployment date is unknown, but it is believed that first new trams will start to operate by the end of April. To make it clear

Route 1, 2 and 9: you will mostly ride the cheaply rehabilitated (10-15 years ago) old articulated trams (K2S) manufactured in '80s.
Route 3, 4, 6 and 8: you will mostly ride the old, originally equipped (laminate seats) trams from '80s (T3)
Route 5 and rarely some other lines: you will ride the newer trams from '90s (T6).

K2S exterior, K2S interior original one (K2) - discarded

T3 exterior, T3 interior

T6 exterior, T6 interior

29T and 30T on test rides

Unfortunately, nobody knows the fate of main station surroundings. The current contract with contractor has proven unfavourable for the city and there are no other ways to cancel it but to let it expire (afaik it has one year left) so the freshly elected mayor decided to wait. The tram track was re-opened (upon a very subtle reconstruction) last year and the reconstruction of the second section of this track has been officially scheduled to "during spring" (but no work has started so far) and the whole tram platforms still looks like from third world country.

The first part was already reconstructed (I wouldn't say modernised, as the reconstruction is only temporary, just like volodaaa mentioned), proper modernization of the second part of the track should start within one month, what means that the service to the station will be interrupted again.
