Some people dreamt about tram-train. It is impossible for the time being. EU funds will subsidize only infrastructure and vehicles for 1000 mm gauge only.

Present meets past

The first Škoda 29T will start running tomorrow as well

Now it should be one new vehicle every week.

I loved the old relics that traveled around the city. I think they were the slowest trams i've ever ridden. especially the line down from the station.

Some news

Construction of the new tramway track to Petržalka slowly continues; new bridge almost fully over Danube.

Tramway track to the Main railway station was reconstructed and now is fully operational.

Also the maintenance buldings of the city transport company were reconstructed (sorry for the scale of the picture).

At the very moment, there are 24 new low-floor tram in use in Bratislava.

Track to main station is "fully" operational. The paving is not finished, the pavement joints are not filled up and the whole track is still missing some infrastructure (e.g. pre-signals). The quality of the track is disputable. But it does look good at first glance.

The trams run, so it's fully operational. Those are just some finishing works, which are not really important.

I don't consider it completed as long as I have to pass around working mechanisms standing (in way) on the footpaths.

New tramway track to Petržalka should be finished in two months, however, this date doesn't seem to be realistic.

Since the morning of 10/24/2015, Bratislava has five crossings of Danube river again. Steel construction of the new Old bridge was connected to the steel construction on the left bank of Danube what means that the key part of the construction of the new tram-line to Petržalka borough was finished. Works now continue on building of the new pillar in Danube and finalization of the track and public spaces on both banks. It seems that the planned date of finishing of the works, 12/15/2015, can be achieved. First trams should cross Danube in the beginning of 2016. Project is funded by the EU budget.

When is the tram line to Petrzalka going to be continued to the southern tip of the suburb? Are the already constructed tunnels (and stations?) for the Bratislava metro going to be used as part of the tram project or the tram will have nothing to do with the constructed metro sections?

In the most optimist case, in 2017-2019. However, it will be funded from the EU budget for the years 2014-2020, so it should be by the end of decade.

Construction of Bratislava metro didn't really reach such progress to have larger tunnels (there are rather digs in the ground) or stations, but some finished parts of metro (underpass on the southern tip of Petržalka) should be used.
