  • 57 condos above

The Bryant Apartments

The apartments in the Bryant must be beautiful, with the view of the park and I bet they cost a pretty penny too.

I just discovered this. What a shame. That old building was beautiful.

This design is alright with the french balconies and the stone facade. But they really have to look again at the core stucture on top. That look so off.

From Archdaily

Quote:
“The idea that the structure and the façade are the same thing, made out of polished concrete, will give the building a tectonic and physical presence. Through this, the building is reduced down to elements of columns and windows, of solid and void, mass and space,” said David Chipperfield. “I think you can make architecture out of very simple things, it doesn’t have to be complicated. The difference between a good building and a bad building normally resides in it being more thought about.”

David Chipperfield's Bryant Park South Condo Launches Sales
http://ny.curbed.com/archives/2015/1...sales.php#more
Quote:
Friday, November 20, 2015, by Zoe Rosenberg

Celebrated British architect David Chipperfield's first New York residential project, The Bryant, quietly launched sales today. Although its listings are nowhere to be found online—yet, at least—the 33-story development will eventually offer 57 one- to four-bedroom apartments priced from $2.255 million. The sales launch comes days after a fete celebrating the development's Bryant Park-adjacent sales gallery, which puts the building's polished facade and elegant interiors on full display.

Bryant Park is the most stunning park/square in NYC, and in my opinion, the most remarkable and beautiful outside Europe, so this site deserves something a bit more stunning. The only way to salvage this is with a really outstanding cladding material. I'm sure it'll turn out better than the renders though.

I just realised that when this stands the NY Public Library will possible be completely out of sight from the ESB.

Facade Work Begins on David Chipperfield's Midtown Condos

Quote:
When the HFZ Capital Group-developed, David Chipperfield-designed The Bryant is completed in 2017, it will bring 57 condos and a 230-room hotel right across the street from Bryant Park. Eventually, the new building at 16 West 40th Street will reach 34 stories, but, as seen in photos posted by Field Condition, it is currently 14 stories up, with facade installation beginning on the lower floors. Sales launched in November and residential units will range from a $2.255 million one-bedroom with 1,067 square feet to an already-sold four-bedroom with 2,707 square feet that went for $9.435 million.
