It may not 'look' as organic as the city skyline in London because it is segregated from the historic centre, but I would argue that it comes down to culture; French people like things to be organized carefully and are arguably more attached to their heritage.

The best example of this is to type in cdg airport, and heathrow airport in google maps and look at the layout of the two from the air. Cdg is very carefully planned out, whereas Heathrow is all over the place.

I would argue it comes down to the luftwaffe.

Paris was spared.

London took one hell of a beating...

for europe and for freedom.

I don't see your point, as always. The war indeed destroyed buildings that needed to be replaced by newer ones. But the choice of building highrises and skyscrapers right in the middle of London had nothing to do with the war, this was an urbanistic decision, as much as the one to build la defense outside of Paris. If Paris was more or less spared, it had several damage too and avoid massive destructions thanks to a German general who refused to listen to Hitler madness.

BTW, during the battle of France, the Luftwaffe lost more than 50% of its strenght, delaying the battle of England for weeks, which give the needed time to reorganize their defences and continue the fight !

Some more of Paris (La Défense) CBD

And a view from La Défense

Also, for those of you who said why can't they make any taller, well there are at least five projects going on now in this area and one of them will be the Hermitage Towers which will be higher than the Shard (They couldn't make any taller as well because La Défense lies on a flight path for the small airport of Le Bourget out of Paris).

There are also some other skyscrapers being done in different areas of Paris, there are actually three other projects out of La Défense. The Tour Triangle 2, Tours du Pont d'Issy, and the tours Duo.

Besides those there are numerous projects going on in La Défense but of towers of smaller height that the Hermitage towers.

Despite this awesome pic, and that density of skyscrapers, London is still n°3 for me, mostly because of the quality of the towers and the double cluster (too far appart from each other, that's the issue).

But you should be carefull about what you say, or DFC1 will look for you, find you and kill you. Bon chance !

*i used to like the Hague a lot more, but with time, i'm beginning to appreciate Rotterdam too, it just lack 2/3 more twers of different hight. But along with the old city, the water plan and the bridge, the city is stuning !
