RICHMOND | Public Transport

Richmond VA, while not currently having any rail transit options has BRT in the planning stages (with possible opening time later in the decade). Also, in recent times there has been a renewed interest in bringing back streetcars /LRT to Richmond. Currently this thread will only be postin ideas for Richmond plans, news on BRT, and hopefully on either a streetcar or LRT in the not too distant future

Streetcar

Light Rail

Great updates for Richmond, VA. I doubt a subway will be planned anytime soon but light rail is a wise investment given the expansion of VCU

I don't think a subway will EVER be planned for richmond, but light rail, or at least a streetcar could see a comeback in the near future.

If you go to the documents page for the Board Street Transit Study, you find that it is all about Bus Rapid Transit. I don't see any mention of rail transit.

Yes, I know, but my point is that Rail Transit has been getting a bit more attention for the Richmond area recently (also I made this thread intending for it to be used more often in the future. When BRT is operational, and LRT is on the table).

The last obstacle to construction of a Broad Street-centered bus rapid transit service was cleared last week when Richmond City Council approved the $50 million project, billed by advocates as the spine around which the bones of a true regional transportation network can be fashioned.

And the GRTC Transit System, which will operate the Pulse service on a 7.6-mile route between Willow Lawn and Rocketts Landing, is fully aware of just how much the future of that regional vision depends on ensuring the areaís first foray into bus rapid transit is a hit.
