MIAMI | Miami Yacht Harbor at PortMiami | 100m+ | Pro

Miami Yacht Harbor at PortMiami

The contentious PortMiami site once proposed for a World Trade Center and a MLS soccer complex is now back in flux with a new convention center/hotel/ marina proposal. Will the third time be the charm for this star-crossed site?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Previously:

WTC Miami is one of two competing proposals for a site at PortMiami owned by Royal Caribbean. The other proposal is for a soccer stadium that would be home to a new MLS team being promoted by David Beckham. For its part, Royal Caribbean has favored the massive 4.8 million sq. ft. mixed use WTC Miami development over the stadium. Neither are funded as yet so stay tuned...

Investors Being Courted For World Trade Center At PortMiami

Quote:
PortMiami and World Trade Center officials have been in Asia seeking funding for a plan to build a proposed World Trade Center at PortMiami.

The 4.8 million square foot project was designed by Miami architect Chad Oppenheim.

A development team selection process will begin next month, according to a presentation. (The plan conflicts with a more recent proposal by David Beckham for a soccer stadium at the site).

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In all likelihood the hotel would be a highrise but who knows? In Miami today these plans can easily morph into something far larger...and taller.

Sort of...

The design is pretty fluid and there's a possibility that the tallest tower will be a supertall given the generous height limits out in the harbor. For now it's a battle of two competing uses. When that settles, the scope and shape of WTC Miami will become clearer.

All at least built on one single massive base. Impressive stuff.

This contentious PortMiami site is having yet another iteration:

PortMiami Land Once Eyed By Beckham For Soccer Stadium Could Get A Hotel And Convention Center

Quote:
A company is proposing to develop a project called Miami Yacht Harbor at PortMiami, on land where David Beckham wanted to build a soccer stadium.

MITC-2015 Inc. is the company that is pushing the proposal. Rene LaComb, who was part of an investment group last year that unsuccessfully tried to take over the Miami Marine Stadium last year, is the company’s principal.

The project could include a convention center, hotel, and yacht marina on 8.7 acres at the southwest corner of the port. Dade County’s 2035 Master Plan for the port envisions exactly that type of development.

Marine Spill Response Corporation currently has a long term lease for most of the land. Dade commissioners will vote this week to authorize negotiations that would move them to another part of the port at no cost.

Details of a lease for the valuable plan have yet to be worked out, but MITC-2015 claims that the project could generate $76 million for the county over the first ten years, including lease payments, sales tax and ad valorem tax.

The Downtown Development Authority last year wrote a letter opposing commercial development at the port, saying that it would flood the market and cause a glut of space.
