I believe the NJ.com article specifies that it is just the first of two towers. If you look at the rendering it kind of makes sense with the podium to have a second tower there.

I think it looks nice for that plot of land. I'm not sure if the RE market is hot in JC, so this might be a big deal for the area.

JERSEY CITY — New renderings of the 56-story tower slated for a lot near the PATH transportation hub show just how unrecognizable Journal Square may be in a few years.

The $400 million high-rise, dubbed One Journal Square and courtesy of Kushner Companies and KABR Group, is part of a planned two-tower project proposed for a long-vacant lot across the street from the old headquarters of The Jersey Journal.

the second tower will be 79 floors. According to information uncovered over at SSP, the towers will be 700 ft and 892 ft.

One Journal Square was approved by city planners last year as a one-tower, 56-story project housing 744 units on a 10-story base that included room for a second tower developers intended to build in the future. The plans have been revised to include two towers to be built simultaneously, one 56 stories and the other 79, both on one 10-story base that will include parking, retail and office space. The two towers, to be located just south of the PATH hub, will house a total of 1,725 residential units and 910 parking spaces in an interior parking garage.
