Melbourne? That'd be news to me, we've got new Citadis and Combino trams that are only two or three years old. Then again, there's still 200 or so trams dating from between 1979 and 1994 which I wouldn't mind replacement, but there's probably better ways to spend money on the tram network.

I don't know, it was reported in Croatian newspapers, but we all know newspapers, lol...
Lets hope they are right on the spot about this , lol,
as to the tram, it can be accommodated to various designs and needs of each city, Zagreb for example might get even bigger version which is 40.5m long, 2.5 wide and consist of 7 sections instead of 5, but this are more likely to be used on Zagreb new Metro being planed for the city...

City of Zagreb got batch of 70 trams for 112 million Euros, another batch of 100 trams is in discussion, contract worth about 170 million Euros for second batch would-be signed in late 2005, and this would basically ensure full production till the end of decade...

For Croatian market NT 2200 is priced about 1.65 million Euros, for foreign markets when you include CIF and specification to each client price can't exceed 2.4 million euros (€) per tram which is still significantly cheaper than all the other manufacturers...

Bombardier trams start at 3.4 million US$, Simmens tram at 3.8 million and Alstom's trams are over 3.5 million,. Breada (Trams on streets of Athens and Milan) are all so very expensive, each costing about 3.85-4.25 million, depending on specifications... I think Skoda is strongest competitor to Koncar trams, Skoda low floor trams are priced at 3.3 million US$ (Portland contract) but they are ugly as hell and smaller only 3 section...

NT200 is on meter gauge, but it can be built to specifications of each customer, as with all other manufacturers... Example Warsaw and Sofia are now talking getting trams from Koncar, at just under 3 million US$ a pop, they'll be co-financed by EU grant, and order of about 100Trams for Sofia and 180 Trams Warsaw could be secured, if it does happened than new trams will be designed (similar to ZET - Zagreb Trams) but to be based on 1435mm gauge and slightly wider perhaps 2.4 or 2.5m...

Price want change significantly, as there is only 15% tax between Croatia and all other EU countries (15% tax with in EU applies to all products I think) if you add manufacturing cost which is about 1.2 million Euros and add CIF you probably looking at 2.4 million Euro on streets of Warsaw, Sofia or perhaps even Tallinn, lol.. lets hope...

sorry, Zagreb is on 1000mm gauge,
