MELBOURNE | 180 Russell St | 271m | 890ft | 70 fl | Pro

Noticed there isn't a thread here for this yet. Taken from Urbanmelbourne.info and OZScrapers Forum.

Replaces the Total car park complex in Melbourne's Chinatown district, which is one of Melbourne's first brutalist buildings. See more here

Melbournes best example of Japanese inspired Brutalist archicture whre off-form concrete emphasizes strure and function. The balustratre treatment and load and support structures are reminiscent of Kenzo Tanges Kagawa Prefectural Offices in Japan 1958. A mixed use building with an office block surmounting the carpark resembling a giant television set. The effect is of a series of floating decks, making a much more interesting carpark form. When built, the innovative design was hailed as new futuristic concept for the modern city.

Great location for a 270+m building, but I can't say that I like the top.

Love the proposal but imo what it's replacing definitely has its merits too, certainly not your usual brutalist building. Still, I don't think a brutalist carpark is all that suitable for such a prominent location and going by the renders it might be much better served by the proposal. Can we just lift the whole thing up and place it elsewhere lol?

The brutalist carpark is hideous. I don't like the design too much (too "contemporary") but I'll gladly support it if it means getting rid that carpark.

Few more renderings / drawings courtesy of UM, AXF Group and Buchan Group.

If built now it'll become Melbourne's second tallest, but if other 270M+ proposals are completed first will most likely be 4th or 5th tallest.
