20th Century Fox Reveals Name, Plans for Malaysian Theme Park
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...ls-name-666180

An overhead view of the plans for Twentieth Century Fox World in Malaysia.

The $300-million park, due to open in 2016, will be the company's first in the world, featuring rides based on "Ice Age," "Alien vs. Predator," "Night at the Museum" and others.

Twentieth Century Fox unveiled the name and some new details of its planned $300-million theme park in Malaysia, the company's first such project in the world.

At a press conference attended by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Razak, executives from Fox and Malaysian partner Genting Malaysia said that the upcoming theme park, Twentieth Century Fox World, will comprise 25 rides and attractions -- from media-based rides, thrill rides, dark rides, to children’s rides and water attractions. It will spread over 25 acres at the Resorts World Genting, a casino, hotel and amusement park complex located about an hour outside Kuala Lumpur.

“The creation of a world-class entertainment destination in a vital market like Asia is a landmark step in Fox’s global theme park strategy, extending our brand and engaging audiences in new and exciting ways,” said Greg Lombardo, vp global location based entertainment at Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products.

Rides and attractions at the park will be based on 20th Century Fox blockbuster titles, including Ice Age, Rio, Alien vs. Predator, Planet of the Apes and Night at the Museum, among others to be announced at a later date.

“The opening of the first Twentieth Century Fox Theme Park at Resorts World Genting takes our rich history of storytelling to a whole new level and will provide an exceptional entertainment experience,” said Jeffrey Godsick, president of Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products. “People from around the world will gather here in Malaysia to become part of the story and to experience the magic and adventure of their favorite Fox properties.”

Fox's partner in the venture, Genting Malaysia, is one of the country's top leisure and hospitality corporations, listed on Bursa Malaysia with approximately $7.7 billion in market capitalization. The company is investing $300 million in Twentieth Century Fox World as an addition to its Resorts World Genting destination, which is home to Malaysia's only casino and has been in operation for the past 35 years.

Genting also owns and operates Resorts World Casino New York City, Resorts World Bimini and casinos in the U.K.

Gambling is technically illegal in Muslim-majority Malaysia, but the country allows non-Muslims and international visitors to bet at the Genting casino, on horse racing and in the national lottery.

"Having the distinction of being the first of its kind in the world, Twentieth Century Fox World will be built on a grand scale that consists of unique and creative concepts featuring more than 25 rides and attractions of a cinematic nature," said chairman and chief executive of Genting Malaysia, Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay. "The theme park will definitely pave the way for continued growth of Resorts World Genting with a next-level family entertainment experience which will attract tourism dollars to Malaysia.”

The two companies said the park will target families and adults. They aim to lure in strong numbers from both within Malaysia and across Southeast Asia and China, as tourism numbers in the region continue to climb.

While Twentieth Century Fox World is under construction, Resorts World Genting also is undergoing a full refurbishment and upgrade. The resort and theme park are scheduled to co-launch in 2016.

Why 20th Century Fox Is Building Its First Theme Park In Malaysia
By Mark Johanson on December 17 2013 8:52 PM
http://www.ibtimes.com/why-20th-cent...laysia-1512852

Twentieth Century Fox will give Walt Disney and Universal Studios a run for their money in 2016 when it opens its first-ever film-inspired theme park. But before you book a ticket to Florida or California to check out the new “Ice Age” roller coaster, there’s a catch: This 25-acre park will rise from the jungle about an hour outside of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products, in partnership with Genting Malaysia, announced Tuesday the theme park’s (rather underwhelming) new name: Twentieth Century Fox World. The groundbreaking ceremony brought together executives from both Fox and Genting, as well as Prime Minister Najib Razak.

“The opening of the first Twentieth Century Fox Theme Park at Resorts World Genting takes our rich history of storytelling to a whole new level and will provide an exceptional entertainment experience,” Jeffrey Godsick, president of Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products, said in a statement. “People from around the world will gather here in Malaysia to become part of the story and to experience the magic and adventure of their favorite Fox properties.”

It’s no wonder Twentieth Century Fox decided to dip its toes into the theme park business. Over at Walt Disney Company, it is theme park earnings that have offset big-budget movie flops like “The Lone Ranger” and “John Carter.” Indeed, while segment operating income decreased $61 million for Disney’s studio entertainment business in fiscal 2013, segment operating income for its parks and resorts soared 17 percent to $2.2 billion.

Universal Studios, too, has found massive success in adapting its films into themed attractions. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, for one, opened in June 2010 and boosted overall paid admissions to Universal’s Orlando, Fla., parks by 20 percent that year, while revenue from food, beverages and merchandise was up 29 percent.

Late to the thrill ride party, Twentieth Century Fox has already licensed some of its biggest franchises to other parks, including “The Simpsons” (Universal Studios) “X-Men” (Universal Studios) and “Avatar” (Walt Disney). Instead, its Malaysian park will feature roughly 25 thrill rides and attractions based on films like “Rio,” “Ice Age,” “Life of Pi,” “Planet of the Apes” and “Alien vs. Predator.”

Twentieth Century Fox announced that it had brokered a deal to open an amusement park in July, but did not release any further details on what would be inside or what it would be called until the groundbreaking this week.

Resorts World Genting noted at the event Tuesday that it had upped its investment from $125 million to more than $300 million, making the new attraction the biggest-ever expansion of its nearly 30-year-old leisure and entertainment complex in Genting Highlands (where altitude tempers the tropical heat).

“With its mix of rides, attractions and movie-fantasy appeal, Twentieth Century Fox World will definitely pave the way for the continued growth of Resorts World Genting with next-level family entertainment experiences which will attract tourism dollars to Malaysia,” Genting Malaysia CEO Tan Sri Lim said in a statement. Other new developments at the hilltop resort include a 10,000-seat arena, a new cable car station and a “shopping haven” of premium outlets.

Fueled by Asia’s emerging middle class, Malaysia is now the second most visited country on the continent after China and the 10th in the world with more than 25 million arrivals in 2012. Genting’s six Malaysian properties alone attract nearly 20 million domestic and international guests a year, and the company believes many visitors to the new park will come from as far away as China and elsewhere in Asia.

Malaysia has made a name for itself in recent years as the theme park capital of Southeast Asia, and is home to the continent’s first Legoland amusement park, located in yet another development corridor near the southern city of Johor just across the border from Singapore. The $243 million park opened in September 2012 with 40 rides, shows and attractions, and added a new water park in October of this year.

Greg Lombardo, vice president of location-based entertainment for Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products, called Malaysia a natural selection for the company’s first park. “The creation of a world-class entertainment destination in a vital market like Asia is a landmark step in Fox’s global theme park strategy,” he said in a statement. It “extends our brand and engages audiences in new and exciting ways.”

Fox Breaks Ground on Malaysia Resorts World Genting; Twentieth Century Fox World in 2016
http://double-image.blogspot.com/201...a-resorts.html

From left to right: Mr. Jeffrey Godsick - President of Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products, Y Bhg Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay -Chairman and Chief Executive of Genting Malaysia, YAB Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Razak - Prime Minister of Malaysia, YA Bhg Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar - Deputy Chairman of Genting Malaysia, Y Bhg Dato' Sri Lee Choong Yan - President and Chief Operating Officer of Genting Malaysia.

20th Century Fox breaks its ground in Malaysia, and it's the first in the world. Plans for the development was already formalized in June this year, between Genting and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products. Faced with strong competition in Asia such as Singapore Universal Studios Theme Park and Tokyo Disney Land, Mr. Jeffery Godsick, President of Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products expressed his confidence on the theme park,

"Genting as a developer of the world's top resort destinations is a natural and valued partner for Twentieth Century Fox... the creation of a world-class entertainment destination in a vital market like Asia is a landmark step in Fox's global theme park strategy, extending our brand and engaging audiences in new and exciting ways."

Malaysia Prime Minister YAB Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Razak also believes that the Genting Integrated Tourism Plan will bring the tourism and integrated resort industry in Malaysia to greater heights, and further enhance its position to a well known destination of choice not only in Malaysia, but also South East Asia.

Genting Integrated Tourism Plan (GITP)
http://www2.nst.com.my/nation/genera...jects-1.436479

GENTING HIGHLANDS: PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday launched the Genting Integrated Tourism Plan (GITP) and the world's first international Twentieth Century Fox Park.

The GITP, said Najib, would be a catalyst for Malaysia's development and a key-driver for economic growth, providing income and job opportunities for the people.

"I believe the transformation plan will help address the regional economic imbalance in infrastructure and encourage local and foreign investment flow into the east coast under the East Coast Economic Region (ECER).

"I am proud to note the private sector's participation under the Economic Transformation Plan and that they are in fulfilment of four of the 12 entry point projects (EPPs) to enhance tourism yields."

The 10-year GITP masterplan will kick off with the first phase comprising development of new hotel properties, infrastructures and amenities as well as the refurbishment of the Resorts World Genting hotels.

The GITP initiatives and the opening of 20th Century Fox World in 2016 were expected to attract 36 million tourists, RM168 billion in tourism revenue and 3.3 million jobs by 2020.

"Under this plan, Resorts World Genting will offer to the ECER infrastructure as well as value-added products and services.

"Twentieth Century Fox Park will offer continued dynamic business growth through its brand of family fun and entertainment. We expect to see the private sector assuming the lead role in fulfilling the growth targets set under the ETP," he said at the launch at Genting Grand Hotel here yesterday.

The first phase of the GITP would be completed by 2016 with a total capital of RM5 billion.

Najib said Malaysia needed to be equipped with the necessary infrastructure and the ability to absorb the level of growth yielded by investments expected from the venture.

The GITP would also see the construction of the second Premium Outlet Centre in Southeast Asia, making Malaysia one of the world's biggest shopping havens. There will be a new cable car system running parallel with the existing line and a new station.

Present at the launch were Genting Malaysia chairman and chief executive Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, deputy chairman Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar, president and chief operating officer Datuk Seri Lee Choong Yan and 20th Century Fox Consumer Products president Jeffrey Godsick.

Lim said Genting Malaysia Bhd was optimistic of attracting tourists to Genting Highlands and contributing to ECER's development.

"Following the successful debut of Johor Premium Outlet at Iskandar in 2011, Genting Group is happy to launch the second Premium Outlet at Genting Highlands in 2015."

The park, he said, would be the first Twentieth Century Fox theme park with rides and other attractions based on blockbusters, such as Ice Age, Life of Pi, Alien and Night at the Museum.

Basically it looks like they want to flatten the whole area including Magic Mountain (where Corkscrew, Dinosaurland, Space Shot, etc were) save the 3 mounds of greenery. Also, they've taken up the road ringing the theme park that led from Theme Park Hotel to First World. Theme Park Hotel has also been closed. On the right (1st picture, under the giant Energizer/Coca-Cola, you can see that they're building some sort of structure. Lots of workers building that thing, even at night they work on it with bright spotlights. On the left (3rd picture), you can see that a big chunk of First World Plaza is being taken down, including Sky Venture.
