(Clicks on new thread in updates.)

(Scrolls down quickly, sees tons of Sao Paulo pics that have been there)

"Oh, this must be the Sao Paulo thread".

(Scrolls down to new pics)

"Hmm, these don't look quite Sao Paulo-y. What's going on here?"

(Goes to top of new post)

"Oh, its Moscow. What's Moscow doing on the Sao Paulo thread?"

(Looks at header)

"Oh, its the monorail thread. Silly me."

It's a great old system, but with a daily ridership of 7000, 1.5km of tracks and 2 stations, the Seattle Monorail is more like a ride than actual transportation. It's because of systems like this (however lovely) that people say monorails are unfit for heavy transportation.

I filmed these videos of the Kitakyushu Monorail in November, 2014 during my month long trip to Japan. The mountains provide a beautiful backdrop for this monorail and city.

The first video is an overview of the whole line from the street level, and the second video shows monorails leaving the storage depot early in the morning to enter service. Also, there is a time-lapse cab view of the entire line.

They dont, just like in case of London metro. Not all monorails have the path for escape, just like not all metros have the possibility to run away.

All Japanese monorails now operational have end-doors allowing passage from a disabled train to a rescue vehicle or working train.

The Wuppertal Monorail is a fascinating system, first opened in 1901. It has stood the test of time, and still serves as vital transportation for the city of Wuppertal Germany. It is heavily used by locals as well as being a hit with tourists! This video shows the wonderful fall foliage as a backdrop for this historic monorail.

Here is another suspended monorail in Germany. The Wuppertal Suspended Monorail is the oldest monorail, while the Düsseldorf Airport H-Bahn monorail SkyTrain is a very modern suspended monorail.
