I think we all forget something here...

* Aircraft

There are so many aircraft, passenger, cargo, and military, that are in use all over the world, and that some aircraft types do not necessarily fall under the Airlines or Airports subcategories. And by the way, quite a lot of members contribute great images of aircraft that they cross-post them on airline, airport, and aircraft threads where possible.

As for Momo's idea, I'd go for that one too.

Ideas welcome, cheers!
Could you please create a subsection where you can list all the airlines of the world so that people can share their experiences that they have had with them

Update: Since I now moderate this section, I am making a few, but important tweaks to many of your favorite threads so that you can share even more images, news, and discussions regarding your favorite aircraft, airlines, and airline alliances. It will take me time to finish all of them, but, rest assured that I will make your experience here even better than before.

I would like to have your insight on this...

A good chunk of what I've seen on this forum are Flight Reports and Trip Reports, both of which are pretty insightful in giving forum users opportunities to see the world through the eyes of a fellow user. And I've also seen quite a lot of threads reporting on general things, like The Top 100 Airports in the World by Passenger Traffic, Your Best Airports in the World, and so on.

My question is this: would you like me to develop two threads specific to both instances and make them as stickies? The two threads I have in mind include:

- Share Your Flight Reports
- General Facts and Figures of World Airports

Do you think those will work for you? I am planning to launch them around the 1st of December, if not a bit later.

I was thinking about reintroducing the thread finder page so users can much more easily find other airline and airport threads (SSC used to have one but I am not sure what happened to it) organized by continent. I am curious to see if anyone else here would approve?

I can do that... it's just that there needs to be more streamlined improvements first, including splitting the forum first into:

- Airports
- Airlines
- Aircraft and Aviation
- Travel News and Stories

With the large forum, I think subdivisions may be needed first to make organization more efficient.

Good point, I guess I will hold off on implementing that until the forum is divided.

when will we see the implementation? i think "Airlines and aircrafts" are better be in same subforum and Aviation, Travel News and Stories should stay in the main page.

its a bit harder browsing airports since the format changed when Fieldsofdream consolidated some airports. can we change the format of the title??

City | Airport name if singular (metro area airport if more than one) | IATA codes

Example:
Hongkong | Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok International Airport | HKG
Moscow Area Airports | DME/SVO/VKO
Tel-Aviv | Ben Gurion International Airport | TLV
Sochi | Adler-Sochi International Airport | AER
Jakarta-Bandung Metro Area Airports | CGK/HLM/BDO

its more organized if the city is presented first. since the IATA codes are now consolidated. looks confusing when two or more IATA codes were combined.

its almost feb. hope we can see the new subdivision.

I will consider that, especially I have more important things to work on at the moment. However, here's an idea: what if we group them by region, for example:

Hong Kong and Macau can be combined into one to become:

"Hong Kong, Macau, and the Pearl River Delta | HKG, MFM, SZX"

Guangzhou, despite it being in the Pearl River Delta, will still keep its thread independent because it is a massive airport. Not to mention, it is quite distant from those three airports to begin with.

Or, how about something like:

"Siberia and the Russian Far East | OMS, OVB, KHV, VVO, and others"

Since those are smaller airports that do not see significant traffic (unless we can have one of them as a standout).

I'm thinking of the following, therefore:

By mega-region (cities):
- New York and the Tri-State
- Los Angeles
- London
- Paris
- Milan, Venice, and Northern Italy (MXP, LIN, BGY, BLQ, TRN, VCE)
- Tokyo
- Seoul
- Bangkok
- Manila
- Jakarta/Bandung
- Los Angeles and Orange County (LAX, ONT, BUR, LGB, SNA)
- Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex
- Houston (HOU, IAH)
- Sao Paulo (GRU, VCP, SDU)
- Rio de Janeiro (CGH, GIG)
- Chicagoland (ORD, MDW, RFD)
- San Francisco Bay Area (SFO, OAK, SJC, STS)
- Boston and New England (BOS, PVD, BDL, and others)

By State:
- BeNeLux (AMS, BRU, LUX, and others)
- US Pacific Northwest (SEA, PDX, GEG, and others)
- Colorado (DEN, COS)
- Hawaii (HNL, KOA, OGG, and others)
- Alaska (ANC, FAI, Juneau, and others)

Just tell me your ideas on how you want those threads to be consolidated so that I can work on them.

il go whatever you want. as long as its organized and easy to look for. the names can wait. the subdivision is much more needed.

Hong Kong and Shenzhen are large airports on their own, and they develop separately even though they are geographically near. Don't group things together that don't belong for the sake of consolidation.

That is a good point. I will definitely keep that in mind. I still keep HKG and SZX separate (despite their relative distance), but, I am looking at ways to group things together by geographic area.

And by the way, do you think it is good to combine the HKG and MFM airports in one thread, or keep them as separate entities?

HKG and MFM have a weak connection and don't serve the same catchment area. They should be separate.

Hong Kong has a separate identity from nearby cities in Mainland China anyways, I think the Hong Kong Airport thread should be left as is so people have a clear idea about what is being discussed.

Bump...

To accomplish the reorganization, I am looking at organizing it in this manner:

Airports (also includes historical air fields and airports under construction)
- Africa+
- Asia*
- Europe*
- North America
- Oceania and the Pacific
- South America
- Airport Statistics

Airlines (Passenger and Cargo)
- Africa
- Asia
- Europe
- North America
- Oceania and the Pacific
- South America

Aircraft
- Historical Aircraft
- Narrow Bodies
- Wide Bodies
- Cargo Aircraft
- Military Aircraft
- Others

Miscellany (can either be stand-alone or grouped under this)
- Traveler Blogs and Reports
- Airline Alliances
- Traveling Advice
- Aviation Lounge
- Aviation Incidents

Notes:

+ - includes airports located in the southern Indian Ocean (Reunion, Madagascar, Mauritius) and western Atlantic Ocean (Sao Tome & Principe)
* - the debate on how to group Russian airports is still underway, especially I am planning to divide it further into the following:

Russian Airports (note: Ukraine will be with the European airports, including Crimea)
- Moscow
- Northwest
- South
- Central
- Siberia
- Far East

Do you think this will work? And if you want to modify the listings and/or order, sound off below.
