Instead of having North America and South America, what about putting North America and then make a section for Latin America and the Caribbean, so that it mirrors the top SkyscraperCity layout?

That would be good as well... that would mean, however, that I can group it like this:

- United States, Canada, and the Caribbean
- Latin America

Would that work?

Also included in the Miscellany, Airport-Related Vehicles and Transportation

the only concern would be Cuba, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic.

Hmmm... good question. Those are "technically" part of Latin America (especially those three have substantial Spanish-speaking populations), yet they are more inclined to be with the United States and North America in this case. And Puerto Rico is a US Commonwealth, meaning they also belong with the American government in Washington D.C. What do you think?

That is why mirroring the skyscraper city layout is a good idea. Everyone has gotten used to it. And the best part is that if someone complains, you can always say that you are following the top layout.

All right. I will consider that idea too. But, if we do Latin America and the Caribbean, that might be too big of a region to handle, especially we are looking at a very diverse region that is more inclined to be with North America (e.g. Jamaica, Aruba, et al.) than the others (e.g. Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, etc.).

Mainly to group Mexico and Central America into one logical unit, otherwise Mexico and Central America has to be in North America and the rest of latin america in south america.

That way you have a group of countries with similar backgrounds in one sub division.

That way all the airport and airline information will be similar to the existing forum in the Latinscraper section:

How about...

- North America
- Central America and the Caribbean
- South America

That will be applied to both the Airports and Airlines subsections.

What do you mean with all these groups?

I asume that u want to have 3 or subforums.

- Airports
- Airlines
- Aircraft
- Miscellany (could be direct under the front page of the Airports and Aviation section)

If you do this you don't really have to group it any further. You can just have separate threads for the larger airports/airlines in the world and country compilation threads for all other airports/airlines.

In the aircraft subforum you can just keep the mix for type and manufacturers as it is now.

Well... We'll see what we can do. I am looking at either:

• create a compilation thread dedicated to all existing threads in the forum as a starter, with the groupings listed above; or
• ask Jan to split up the forum into those broad groups (above), with a thread lookup thread at the start, to make things more organized and efficient.

One thing that could be done is to see how many airports and airlines threads are from Latin America in the Airports and Aviation threads. If there are enough that having one section is confusing, then go ahead.

But I suspect that there will not be enough entries to warrant a Central America and the Caribbean. But having Mexico and Central America and the Caribbean with the North American Thread, will be difficult to navigate.

We could say that there are less than a dozen mayor airlines that are from Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Then the number of mayor airports in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, could be around 12 to 24. And I suspect that not many have open threads in the Airports and Aviation directory.

Then about South America. Again, similar scenario. There could be around less than a dozen mayor airlines, and the number of major airports again are around 18 to 36, and I suspect that not that many have open threads.

Last but not least, there is the issue of airlines such as Avianca and Copa. Avianca (Colombia) merged with TACA (El Salvador and Peru) and Copa (Panama) bought Aero Republica (Colombia). Potentially you could put the airline in their main country of origin. But then to search about news about their hubs in the case of Avianca, you would have to go to 2 different directories: One for where El Salvador is located, and the other in South America for Bogota and Lima.

My idea and thoughts from 8th April last year still stand, and its a simple and easily negotiated section of SSC:

- Airports Section (each airport/airport cluster to have its own thread)
- Aircraft Section (Threads for everything from Airbus, Boeing and all other manufacturers)
- Incidents Section (Threads for each and every major air accent or incident and not in one thread)
- Carriers Section (Business section for each carrier and air alliance)
- Aviation Lounge (Everything else that isn't in the above 4 labels and all historical aviation talk in this section)

5 simple sections that should be easy to follow.

That mirrors what I have, with a few modifications.

During the summer. I am going through my final hoops in university, so I have to take care of that one first. However, do we have a consensus on the long-term reorganization plan?

Regarding the Aircraft, I would like to see the planespotting photos separated from the News and Discussion threads.

You know what, that could work as well... but that means having an entire new division worth of planespotting and photo sharing may be a bit too much, especially if we talk about new service, final farewells, or adjusting terminal features. I would keep them as they are at the moment, I just have to make sure that the pictures are relevant to the topic at hand.
