Another reason could be that it's very thin and that's where the elevators go.

Good point. We forget, the way this is rendered, that this will be clustered with a couple other buildings, likely of similar size.

Also likely -- in the end probably a combination of the two theories. If the neighboring towers are similarly sized, then the blank walls are not the end of the world. May have to live with them for a year or two (or not at all, depending on which rises first.) And at least in the renders, they appear to be treated with some kind of pattern, although it's anyone's guess what it is. Brick? Glitter? Glittery brick?
