A few videos from Tokyo from my wife.

First up, the Hibiya Line at Tsukuji station.

Trains at JR East Kanda Station.

Watching Ueno-Tokyo line trains at Ueno station.

Finally - the journey between Ueno and Tokyo on a beautiful sunny spring day.

Trains are less heavy due the double aluminum body. Uses a new T-Smover bogie limiting the noise and vibrationer.

In terms of lighting, as usual the train uses LED system. The information is provided by 15'' screens, and the doors has changed from one to two leafs, like in the new Yurikamome trains.

The train looks nice, but kinda weird - with the lights on top of the front only...

Now that the first E235 trainset will enter actual revenue service, anyone know when with additional production trainsets start entering revenue service during the course of 2016?

The new E235 trainset could have a bolder design... This design is so old.

But what would you want for a commuter train? I mean, what matters most is the acceleration, reliability, deceleration, comfort, maximising standing room etc etc. Besides, it has only electronic adverts to get rid of those cardboard ones, that'll make a big difference to the interior that's for sure.

Anyway, I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I quite like the design.

You know, I would describe these boxy designs as 80s retro and actually pretty cool. The 80s were the peak of Japanese economic ascendancy so it makes sense to harken back to those days.

These designs are practical to boot: Sloped noses reduce the space available for passenger occupancy, and aerodynamics basically don't matter for trains as slow as the Yamanote anyway that stop every 500~2200m.

MHI delivers Saitama New Shuttle trains
Friday, October 30, 2015

MITSUBISHI Heavy Industries has delivered the first of three six-car 2020 series rubber-tyred metro trains to Saitama New Urban Transit for use on its Ina Line New Shuttle automated guideway transit (AGT) line in the Tokyo suburbs

The 12.7km Ina Line shares the viaducts of the Tohoku and Joestsu Shinkansen, serving 13 stations between Omiya and Uchijuku north of the capital.

The new six-car trains are due to enter service on November 4 and have been ordered to replace 1000 series sets which date from the opening of the first phase of the line in 1983. The two remaining trains will be delivered by the end of next year

Sotetsu 9000 series refurbishment plan

From 2016, the 9000 series EMU fleet is scheduled to undergo a programme of refurbishment. This will involve new interiors, including leather seat covers on the transverse seating bays, interior lighting that can be adjusted to suit day and night conditions, and a new exterior livery of "Yokohama navy blue".

I was wondering, just how close are Shinjuku and Shinjuku-sanchome stations on the Marunouchi Line? Google Maps shows them as simply part of the same structure, but that may be due to the underground malls...

And has anyone thought of merging the two Tokyo Metro stations?

According to the Wikipedia site, then it is 300 meters between those two stations.
But I would guess that it might be closer, since I don't know if they have the platform lengths included in that distance or not.

It's quicker to walk 5 minutes between them than to wait for a train. From Shinjuku san-chome station to Shinjuku station, theres a underground concourse that is free. It's sometimes a part of my commute when I use the Fukutoshin line (and Toyoko Line) instead of the Shonan-shinjuku line to get to Shinjuku.

BTW, the Yamanote E235s look like 21st century E103s to me. You have to see it in person.
