Pont Amedee Saint Germain Armagnac | Quartier Bordeaux Sud | Euratlantique | € 38 millions | Opening 2018

Quote:
The selected project is a metal structure above the tracks and concrete on both ramps and on the viaduct Amadeus which allows to join the current street Amédée St Germain. The pedestrian and bicycle space is separated from traffic by a very visual element structure , which gave its name to the " both eyes open " bridge.

It is a structure built next to the rail beam and once completed , pushed over ways to limit its impact on railway operations.

The space under the viaduct Amédée was particularly worked , the future public space will allow the pedestrian link between the new neighborhood and Amédée Station .

Proposed by the team to cross the tracks structure is atypical, its structural operation required a technical innovation process in which we find the signature of the architect .

The market will soon be notified by the Public Development for starting studies in the summer .

Hi arno-13, yeah the tread has restarted because the information was a little bit mixed, for exemple different projects were in a same comment so it was a bit difficult to read and follow more easily the information.

Now there's also a specific standard to indicate the localisation of the projects depending of their 'quartier'.

Hope that with this little mesures the Tread would be more enjoyable and easy to follow for everyone.

Je ne connais Bordeaux que de passage. Pourtant j'ai toujours pensé que c'est une ville magnifique pour y vivre.
Merci pour le thread!

Merci Aranou.

Bordeaux is a city that is going through a very big renovation phase that has just begun not so long ago, before it was known as "La belle endormie" The Sleeping Beauty, know I think it's completely the opposed.

If there's something that we would take from granted about Bordeaux is that the best is yet to come

Projet du secteur de Brazza | Quartier La Bastide | Approved | 2014-2019

© Y.Tohmé Architects & Associates, ©Bordeaux7

Quote:
Brazza is a place apart, a valuable possession for Bordeaux. The unique nature of the district lies in what it has unexpectedly won back for the city; a direct relationship to the river and the surrounding landscape, a generous scale of construction and a sense of limitless potential. We wish to explore this potential through an unfettered approach to urban planning which seeks to generate a network of relationships between the people, the Garonne and the surrounding countryside. The primary function of this landscaped expanse is to reconfigure the relationship between the people and the city. Whilst playing an important structural role, we feel that large green spaces can be the vectors of another urbanism, one that is open, surprising and separate from the inappropriate and burdensome rules of the traditional city. This lays the foundation for a new neighbourhood in which it is possible to live differently wherever you are: under a tree, near a school, at home.

Bordeaux is totally booming these years ! Taking a walk around the bridges (pont de pierre and Chaban) gives an idea of the projects and the vision of a soon major 1 million inhabitant european city.

Le Pibal vélo | Bike-sharing program for free | Peugeot Cycles | Underway

©Trendsnow

New Bikes for Bourdeaux

With the launch of the first fleet of Philippe Starck-designed bicycles in Bordeaux, the city’s image as one of Europe’s most cycle-friendly metropolises is getting an update.

The first wave of Pibal city bikes will be available for Bordeaux residents to rent long term and free of charge from the Maison du Vélo, the city’s cycling hub. The sleek yellow and gray line will gradually replace the 10-year-old models in the existing fleet of 4,000.

The design overhaul is the result of a 2012 crowd-sourced initiative from Mayor Alain Juppé to involve residents in selecting the new look and frame for its popular bike-rental program, VVB (Vélo Ville de Bordeaux).

Inspired by several hundred suggestions culled from local residents, Mr. Juppé enlisted the talents of Mr. Starck to create the bike in collaboration with Peugeot Cycles.

The winning design is an ergonomic electric bike-scooter hybrid, perfectly adapted for locals to navigate the city’s warren of narrow, largely pedestrian streets as a primary means of transportation.

The Pibal features two automatic gears that shift according to a rider’s cadence, ample rear storage racks, adjustable seats and handlebars, reflective bands on the rims, mudflaps and tires, and a central footrest engraved with a city map that allows the rider to switch from the pedaling to scooter functions in congested areas.

The revamped city bike is the latest effort in Mr. Juppé’s extensive 10-year program aimed at improving daily life for residents and significantly reducing car traffic – an initiative that has seen the number of cyclists triple in the last decade. Bike travel now exceeds more than 10 percent of daily commutes in the city.

“We need to be thinking of the bicycle’s future. Climate challenges and other ecological concerns drive us to prepare for this–for cycling to become a bigger part of our daily lives,” Mr. Juppé said. “The Pibal is a symbol of this future.”

Pibal bicycles currently are rent only by Bordeaux locals who can show proof of residency. Visitors can opt for short-term bike rentals at VCub stations across the city.

€200m to be spent upgrading Bordeaux Saint-Jean station
29 APR, 2014

Photo by RFF / CAPA / Richard Nourry (TOMA)

RFF and SNCF have launched a joint €200 million scheme to renovate Bordeaux Saint-Jean station ready for the inauguration of the Tours-Bordeaux TGV in 2017.

The three-year programme is made up of 14 separate projects designed to improve reliability of rail services in the Aquitaine region and allow the station to accommodate the additional seven million passengers expected to use the it from 2017.

As well as extending the station itself and modernising the current interior, money will be spent renewing track and building new maintenance facilities for TGV and TER vehicles.

The 302-kilometre Tours-Bordeaux HSL will reduce journey times between the cities to just over two hours.

RFF has already awarded the Vinci-led LISEA consortium a 50-year concession to maintain and renew the €7.8 billion route. The agreement requires SNCF to pay LISEA a fee to use the line

Projet du ZAC Bastide-Niel | Quartier La Bastide | MVRDV Architects | Planing

Quote:
Bastide-Niel will become a lively extension to the city centre with a mixed program of 3200 homes, 25.000 m2 retail , 25.000 m2 offices, 15.000 m2 crafts and 58.000 m2 public facilities such as a university building, the municipal archives, a cultural building, a community centre, schools, day care centres and sport facilities, such as a skate park. The 35ha site near the Garonne River lies within walking distance of the historic UNESCO listed centre of Bordeaux and is currently occupied by warehouses, redundant barracks and rail embankments. The question was how to create a vibrant neighbourhood in the tradition of, as well as as an update to, the European city center: architectural diverse yet dense; open and well lit but intimate, and sustainable as well as literally green.

The existing historic structures have served as basis for the master plan which follows the rail tracks and the lay-out of the barracks. All historic structures, railways, and platforms will be maintained and maximally densified, this new interpretation of the history makes the existing an active part and starting point for the new. Around these artifacts a network of 6 to 10 meter narrow streets is created leading to a safe traffic system with equal rights for cars, public transport, bikes and pedestrians. Most streets are one-way, serviced from the riverside or from the opposite avenue, whilst the tramway will be safely isolated on a special lane. This road, alley and lane network results in an intimate, capillary city with 144 city blocks. Inhabitants will live in an urban environment comparable to a historic city centre. The envelopes of the buildings, developed from strictly applied day lighting requirements, allow flexibility: ground floors may accommodate either residences, offices or shops. In-between and inside the blocks is space for small parks, pocket gardens and squares which add additional green to the large riverside Parc aux Angéliques designed by Michel Desvignes. Due to the vicinity of the river, parking will be provided above ground level.

To achieve rich architectural variety the 144 blocks will be commissioned to 144 different architecture offices. The zero energy ambition is reached through a series of interventions: A geothermal installation will pump up heat from 1 km depth. On the roofs and south facades of the buildings solar panels will be placed to produce electricity. The roof height allows each building to receive sun light at ground level whilst the volumes are restricted to 15 meters depth allowing natural ventilation from two sides. Based on these roof parameters a contemporary European city roofscape emerges.
